I have heard this but have no first hand experience from anyone. My 2 yr old wasn't in cd, but is potty trained now. Just curious if there was any truth to this or if it has more to do with the kid than the kind of dipes they wear.

I don't know how true that is. My ds is cloth diapered and 2 1/2, and while at one point it seemed he was close to potty learning, he's regressed a bit. We are just waiting a bit to try again later.

I'm not too sure. Both of my oldest have been cloth diapered. My DS potty trained at 2.5 years. My DD is still thinking about it at alittle over 3. She's not completely sure about it.

Both my cloth diapered girls were around 22 months when they were done with diapers. I have always attributed it to cloth diapering. We did a *very* relaxed form of EC, and made the potty a fun, huge deal, and they both got really into it.

I think it may be *1* contributing factor to early potty learning, but it isn't a given unto itself.

My son was day-trained shortly after his 2nd birthday, and out of even over-night diapers by 2 1/2.

My daughter is home day-trained now, but wears diapers for outings and over-night (she asks to potty when we're out most of the time, but it's sometimes just too far for her yet). She isn't quite 2 yet.

BUT - they've both had full access to a small potty at home from the time they were mobile at all. Both has VERY frequent diaper changes (as in - every time they so much as dribbled some pee). Both had lots of nakey time once they could walk (and had slowed down thier bowel movements
) because cleaning up messes just hasn't been a big deal to me. Both had full access to see both DH and myself using the toilet. Both were set onto a potty whenever mommy went potty as soon as they could sit up unaided (diapered at first, but soon undiapered).

I think there are a LOT of factors to potty learning, regressing, etc. Cloth diapers MAY be one of them, but I cannot see them as a deciding factor.

I don't think it's true for every baby but My first ds was mostly in disposibles and didn't PL till over 3.5, 2nd ds was about 1/2 time cd'd and was PL by 2.5, dd was in cloth most of the time from 3 months on and started Pl around 18 months, was completely day time diaper free before her 2nd bd. She will be 4 in Dec and still occassionally wets at night (MAYBE 1 time a month). Some say girls are faster than boys at PL'ing too.

I don't think so. My ds2 was older than my paper diaper son, but then again he has a medical condition that would have been horrible for his self-esteem if he had potty trained earlier. He has Celiac Disease which cause massive amounts of diarhea prior to dx and the gf diet.

My dd is using the potty at 2, not 100% of the time. She is early than the boys, but I think it is a boy vs girl thing, not cloth. She doesn't like being wet, the boys frankly didn't care.

I've also got friends who EC and their toddlers are still wearing EC pants (like my dd is for easier take off and put on by herself, her choice) or diapers and still soiling their pants. In theory the method is good, however, in the practice I've seen it, I have yet to see complete potty learned toddlers -- it's all the parents trained to see when their toddlers need to go and I'm not sure that is the best thing for all children.

I sure hope not!!
Then what fun obsession could I have??!

I really think it just depends with every child. I'm not anticipating an early PTer, but if he does, than FABULOUS! If not, I'll just enjoy the cute little CDs for a little bit longer!!

All 4 of my kids have been cd'd. My dd trained at 3 and ds #1 trained at 3. Ds#2 is 4 now and isn't using the potty. And, of course, ds#3 isn't trained, as he isn't yet 2. So, I have to say that cd'ing had nothing to do with how early my children trained. I know tons of sposie kids that trained younger than my kids.
