My son was born 2 weeks ago. He's our first child and he will remain intact. We're on Maternity/Paternity leave for 6 months and then we will need to enroll him in a daycare center.<br><br>
When the daycare workers change his diaper, should we be worried that they might retract him?<br><br>
Should we talk to the manager of the daycare or all the workers to make sure they know not to retract him? I still worry that some overenthuiastic worker that didn't get the memo will treat him like all the circumcised babies she's changed. Is there really any way to guarantee that he won't be retracted? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/confused.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Confused">

I would make sure I had a talk with everyone involved. I'd bring maybe a pamphlet or something on intact penis care and make it clear that I expected my child to be cared for that way.

When we enrolled DS in daycare, there was a big questionaire to fill out. In both the medical and "other comments" parts, I wrote "He is not circumcised. His forskin should not be manipluated in any way. When diapering, his penis should be gently wiped clean, like a finger would be wiped." I also talked to the center director.<br><br>
I forgot all about it when he changed classrooms, and he's never had any signs of retraction.

I wrote in the paperwork very boldly that my son was "intact (had not been circumsized) but that no extra care needed to happen during potty breaks." He was two when he started school and was potty trained. I also wrote that there was no reason his penis should be touched or manipulated. I was very weary of seeming rude, but after reading enough posts about uniformed people I realized I need to protect by baby boy! So I also pointed out what I had written to his teacher and explained verbally. If your ds will be six months old I would write: Our son is intact, which means he was not circumsized. No extra care or "pulling back" is needed or should happen during diaper changes. Simply wipe diaper area to clean. Do Not Retract."<br>
Then I would talk to manager and his specific teachers. and be proud that you are a good mama bear!

I put a sign above my son's diapers. (all the kids had their own "cubby hole" for diapers and extra clothes.) That way, anyone who got a diaper for him and was going to change him would see the sign!<br><br>
And yes, I talked to everyone, too.

Always better safe than sorry. So talk to everyone who will be doing diaper changes that way you wont have to worry about it down the road.

I was also going to suggest putting a sign where they store the dipes, or writing it in sharpie on each package or something, in case there's ever a new worker there... I would make sure the manager knew and all the workers, to cover all your bases.
