My pump is 9 years old. It is a PIS and has been pretty good up until now, but it seems to be losing suction and not pumping as efficiently. I'm going back to work next week and will most likely need to pump at least twice a day. Should I try to replace parts, get a new motor, or just get another? It seems that 9 years old is probably pretty close to the life of a pump. What do you think? I really don't want to supplement, so I want to pump as much as possible.

I'd say that pump doesn't owe you anything- 9 yrs is a good run. I'd get another now instead o f realising you need a new one too late and when you may be more stressed with more time limits.

Pumps sell well on ebay, so you can pass it on when you're done and get some of your money back (or just buy a used one). The PISs sell well, but the Ameda Purely Yours have a valve that keeps milk from going up the tubes, so some moms prefer to buy them second hand as opposed to the PIS...just a point to consider.

I just got an Ameda one off ebay for $76...some sell for much more.

Thanks. I think I'll hunt around on ebay. This pump was actually my stepmom's when she had my 2 half brothers (now 8 and 5-kind of crazy I know!). I think this is our last baby so I've been hesistant to spend to much money. Maybe I'll try parts and then a new pump. Thanks!
