Talking about diapers here

I am going to buy some used PF's from a lady on craigs list today. should i strip them to get rid of any soap/nasties that they may have on them? if so....
how do i strip them...what to use, what to look for, how many times.....and how often should I do it after this first time.
also, when do i know that a diaper is done? no longer usable? i know that they last a long time, but is there something to look for (i dont know how long she has had/used these diapers) or is it just when you use them and they dont absorb anymore?
oh...and what is wicking, and why is it bad?
