Do we have thrush?

396 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Juni
My daughter has a white tongue, but I can't find any other symptoms of thrush. It seems like she has always had a white tongue and it doesn't wipe off. Sometimes its very white and kind of chunky, and others just very faint. She never cries and any fussiness is easily fixed with th eboob. She has always nursed A LOT.

I have Raynauds that is being resolved currently, and she had a hard suck that is getting better. I am occasionally having some pain, but have assumed it is becuase of those reasons. Can thrush be painful only occasionally? Is there another possible cause for a white tongue?

TIA

oh, well, i'm no thrush expert, but babies definitely can have "milk tongue". my dd1 had it and i was never very successful wiping it off although they say you should be able to. my ped looked at it, though, and said it wasn't thrush. if you trust your ped ask him or her what he thinks next time you go. i think thrush also gets on the sides of the tongue and the cheeks. it doesn't sound like thrush to me, but i'm no expert.

I also have Raynauds, but now I'm suspecting thrush in addition to that
My son's tounge is faint white, I experience a totally new sort of pain and my nipples are itchy. The consultants I spoke to over the web told me that thrush can be very painful... I don't feel it all the time, but nursing is painful on the right side. Might as well check the possibility of it being thrush.

The problem is I don't know who to call, the pediatrician or my GP? Do you know?

when my ds got thrush (5yrs ago) i got a prescript from his pediatrition. i didn't have insurance, but he did so that was just easiest. i suppose you could see either. i would go to whoever is more bf friendly
genetian violet is sold at health food stores if you want to try and treat yourself. im starting to think ours isn't thrush. the pp said her dc got milk tongue that didn't wipe away. im guessing and hoping that is what my dd has.

best of luck to you.

Thank you! I'll call the pediatrician then, he's a nice, bf friendly man.

Good luck to you too!
