I don't really have a PCP right now, I have had a head cold for about 5 days and I woke up this morning with it in my chest. My chest is crazy tight and hurts when I cough. I need some advice on what to take- medicine or tea or something to help so it doesn't settle in and get worse.

I feel like my midwives would be good help- they would also know more about herbal remedies. A PCP or clinic will just want to give me ABX.

Anyone here know, can I take mucinex? Anyone know of a good tea or something that helps break up mucus?

thanks

Sorry you are feeling icky. Make sure you are staying hydrated and resting as much as you can. You don't want what you've got to turn into pneumonia.

As far as expectorants go, IIRC Mucinex is just guaifenesin, like in Robitussin, which is a Pregnancy category B drug. Pseudoephedrine- like in Mucinex D- is considered safe after the first trimester.

and feel better soon, mama! I'd give your mw a buzz just to touch base and let her know you're sick and see if she has any recommendations for you.

sorry you are feeling icky. I tend to call my MW if I want something herbal/natural. PCP if it warrants ABX or I want to try a non-prescription drug.
