I'm just curious how many ppl drink their well water without filtering it.
Dh gives me a hard time for filtering ours - thinks it doesn't need it. I know it doesn't have the flouride and stuff added that city water does, but sn't there a risk of parasitic infections and metals etc if you don't filter?

TIA

Our water tastes great. I can't tell a difference with the filter or without it. But I think I worry about contaminants that we can't taste. The filters are expensive though. Maybe we should just have it tested.
Thanks for the responses.

I only filter it if it tastes like iron or smells like fart. Some days are worse then others. Some days its the greatest water every tasted!

We have a sediment filter on ours. That's it. I love the taste of our well water. I keep meaning to have it tested, but haven't gotten around to it (we've been here 15 years!).

My house in the mountains, which had well water, had a whole house UV filter installed in it and we also put in a reverse osmosis filter in the kitchen.
Even after all that it still tasted funky.

I'm struggling with this now. We moved into our place last summer and had our water tested as required, but I need a chemist to tell me what it all means.

The house has a reverse osmosis filter installed, but when I called the company about it, it was obvious that the previous owners hadn't done anything about it at all. So we'd need a couple of hundred dollars' worth of new filters or whatever to get it back in working order. After researching on the internet, I've decided it's not worth it.

So, really, I just need to get with someone who can interpret the results of the water test. They let us move in, so I assume it's not toxic, and it tastes fine. I just need reassurance. It's tough being responsible for your own water, rather than knowing the town is dealing with it.

Have you read any info on this site? You can click on your specific state and get resources from there.

Great resource! Thank you!
It looks like we should test.
Thanks for all your responses.

We filter. A recent government statistic is that 80% of all well water tests positive for pesticides.

How many farmers do you have in your area? Are you at the top of a mountain or the bottom? Near any highways, etc? There's also a place where you can look up how close you are to any designated toxic sites. All that will help you decide if you want to filter, because the specific pesticide tests are sometimes very expensive, as much as a good basic filter would be.

Yes, that's what we've finally decided. We could spend a lot of money on expensive tests that would likely be hard to interpret from the sound of it. Or we could just invest in a water filter and have some peace of mind. We do live in an agricultural area, and in a valley.

Thanks to you all.
mbravebird - I just watched Griffin's story in your sig - VERY inspiring! What a gorgeous boy!
