Do you ever wish for . . .

Do you ever wish that some big company would decide to mass market cloth diapers? The whole works - ads on TV, coupons in the Sunday flyers, mass mailings to brand new parents . . .

Of course I have mixed feelings about this. A huge company couldn't possibly do it right. They would probably come up with some cheap sort of inferior diaper that would turn even more folks against cloth.

But what if they did it right . . . a high quality product at the right price with the right marketing. Wouldn't it be great if the general population caught on to what we already know - cloth diapers are the way to go! And we would still have our fabulous WAHM's, who would become even more in demand.

So I'm dreaming. I just get tired of other parents looking at me as if a third eye has sprouted on my forehead.

I read another post that commented on how people don't trust things they haven't seen on TV. I'd like to see some ads for cloth diapering, breast pumps, co-sleepers, slings, Mama cloth . . .

Yep, I wish for that all the time actually.

With the truth:

1. Heathier

2. Easy. With big pics of an aio or something.

3. Less than Disposies

4. Real Cloth, not just "Cloth Like" Feel, on your baby's soft skin

5. Best for the Earth

6. These are NOT your grandma's diapers, No toilet dunking, No pins, no sagging, no plastic pants, unless you really want to

7. Charts and Graphs, the whole 9 yards

A big stinkin ad for Breastfeeding too, with the truth and everything, because who cares if it makes formula look bad????? Not anyone I know.

And a show for 1/2 hour everynight on PBS or something that is a help learning type show on Breastfeeding. They can put surgery on TV, then they can surely show a breast latching an innocent newborn baby on TV too!

Well, that must be why I don't watch TV much! LOL! Nothing on there I'm interested in! LOL! But I am a sucker for old movies....

In a way, yes I do wish that. Then people would see that it is better than what our grandparents had it and not think it was so horrible. People are horrible about not wanting to do something that is not convienent tho. Just like I wish that organic products were easier to come by (in my close area) and not so darn high priced, but it is a price I pay for wanting the best!

That would be the day!

What blows me away is that the other night I was watching Titanic on a network station and they blurred out Rose's breasts in the drawing!!! I couldn't believe it! They'll blur artwork of natural beautiful breasts but they'll show Paris Hilton half naked strutting around like a hoochie in a commercial! I don't quite understand their reasoning. That's why young men are growing up to think that natural breasts are "strange" and fake breasts are what is normal to them. That's all that TV allows them to see. I wish I had a son so I could teach him right from wrong and natural from fake. I wish I could teach my son to appreciate natural beauty and I wish other Mother's would do the same so that my daughter doesn't have to conform to some arbitrary standard of beauty created by plastic surgery...................

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant! But I totally agree about mass marketing cloth diapers. If someone did it right, that would be awesome.
I'd love it if cloth became more mainstream, myself however would still hafta buy from wahms.

I think the most likely scenario would be if a big company (i.e. Gerber or someone) bought Fuzzi Bunz out.

It would have to be a company that does not make sposies, though, because they wouldn't want to have competing products (I wouldn't think), and I can't think of any major companies who don't.

It would be bad for the WAHM's, though, because everyone from babystyle to the really high-dollar brands would start making them.
But even if Fuzzibunz or something were mass marketed, I still think WAHMs would profit. No big company can make a Fussybutt or other artistic diaper like that. Maybe these WAHMs would even be in demand more since more people in the "real" world would want CDs. Face it, Barnes and Nobles might sell many a Picasso print, but there are still people out there who will pay big for real art.

And about blurring out boobs, I totally agree with you Leeshalynn. They can't show her perfectly lovely natural breasts but turn the channel and you will see some bimbo strutting around at an MD's office with blurred nipples saying that her "D's" are too small for her to be a successful stripper so she needs to go bigger. Since I have been BFing I have flashed more people than a drunk girl at Mardi gras. And you know what, I don't care!!! As far as I am concerned my breasts are to feed my baby and they are nothing to EVER be ashamed about. Put as many naked boobs and butts you want on tv, but get those trash talking nasty people taken off. I would rather my ds see a naked boob than someone giving a guy a lapdance!

And I also want someone to mass market AIO's or pockets. People are already washing so many baby clothes and burp cloths and such; why not add a few diapers. Like I said before, if you use spoises you are doing more laundry anyway because you get blow-outs all of the time in those things! My friends using spoises handle nastier poop than I ever do.

Even a low quality CD is better than a spoisie. I was also thinking how great it would be if diaper services offered pockets and AIO's instead of just PFs and plastic pants. Imagine if you could have the wonderfulness of a Fuzzibunz without having to worry about washing them (actually I don't mind washing diapers, but I am weird). I think more people would do diaper service then. Face it, PFs (great as they are) are tough to use since they have to be changed more often and pinning/snappi-ing takes talent. So, someone want to start a diaper service with me in Houston that offers pockets and AIOs? We could make a killing with the amazing cute diapers out there. There have to be so many working women with huge disposable incomes that would love to have the beauty and comfort of cloth without having to pin or wash... Think about it!!!

I would love to be able to go to a big major 24 hour store like Target and buy some decent cloth diapers. Even if the big stores sold the more mass-produced diapers like Kissaluvs and Fuzzi Bunz, it would be great. You could really see them and touch them and check out the colors, size, etc... and then, if you impulsively wanted to dive into CD'ing or your kid suddenly changed size or you were stuck somewhere with no clean CDs (and I've done all of those things :LOL) you could just go and buy some. It woud be awesome! And I think there would definitely be a place for the WAHMs too. They could open up trendy little boutiques because the easy-to-get CDs would introduce more people to CD'ing and create a greater demand for other types of cloth diapers.

You can rant here any day!
If it makes you feel better, I'm raising my son that way and I know lots of people here and IRL who are doing the same so hopefully the world is not a lost cause for our kids. I feel strongly that our kids will seek out friends and partner who have been raised with similar natural values...

Wanna play matchmaker? :LOL

It would bug me if a mega-corporation started offering CD's but that's just b/c I'm becoming more anti-corporation every day. :LOL But I would love to see a responsible company like Fuzzi Bunz be able to expand into the mainstream market.

Uh-huh, me too! And I'm not so sure how I'd feel about buying a diaper super super cheap from some mass produced corporation. Same way I feel about clothing...like who is suffering at less than minimum wage to make that thing, ya know?

I wonder if it could ever work though?
I was thinking the other day about a "transition" diaper. Something to ease the 'sposie world into cloth. What about a pocket diaper that you could stuff with something disposable. There could be a pocket shell that is reusable. Consumers would still need stuff bags, and would still need to wash the shells.

Then once they get used to the wonders of reusable cloth, they could transition into reusable inserts. And they'd be hooked! Our ranks would swell, and everyone would sing praises to the wonders of modern cloth.

I'd love to be able to walk into an upcale department store and have a selection of high-end (cashmere, silk, wool) etc diapers and cover to choose from. Of couse I'd also love to be able to run to target and pick up some good quality, inexpensive pockets or fitteds or whatever, whenever I need them. Oh wouldn't that be a happy day!

If there were commercials for CD's, especially the fuzzi bunz type that are easy to use, etc. there would naturally be a huge Demand for CD's on all levels.

That would turn into a Demand for CD services so busy people could have thier diapers washed for them! That eliminates the need for anything disposable except for perhaps outings or trips.

That is what disposables were meant for, occasional use, not everyday use.

No diaper eliminates the need to change your baby, unless you do Elimination Communication! LOL!

The moms who don't have the cash to use a service(which in most areas is still far less than disposables)would wash thier own.

Saving the earth, the landfills, babies health, mom's pocket book, etc. Big Co's like proctor and gamble, might loose out, or more likely, they might just jump on the train and start producing CD's too!

Yes, wahms may loose out if they can't keep up, but some loose out now, cuz they can't get the business, but most would probably bloom. I know many women who've sewn custom baby clothes and done just fine.

A few details can add $5-$25 to the final price of a diaper. This would still allow many wahms to stay in business, and perhaps get more business too. Everyone would know what a CD is today, and everyone has babies, and need diapers of some kind.
