I'd like some feedback on the Britax Regent if you own one, please. Is it worth the money?
Thanks. It says it goes up to 80 lbs.........is that 80 lbs. in the 5 pt. harness, or only up to 80 lbs. as a booster?

My son is almost 40 lbs., and I already have a booster I could use, but I wanted to keep him in a 5 pt. harness for as long as possible. But if this is just going to be another booster seat, essentially, then I won't buy it. Thanks for the info.

I have my 4 yo dd in the husky which is what the regent used to be before they renamed it last year. It harnesses to 80 pounds, it never turns into a booster seat. The seat itself is large but I drive a small saturn sedan and it fits wonderfully. I've installed it in a honda odyssey, ford taurus and a pontiac montana as well and have gotten good, solid installs. I really think the seat is worth the money. I'm a bit of a britax fan, I have 4 of their seats and they've all been worth every penny. I purchased my husky online at bestbuybaby.com as well as my other britax seats. Their prices are great. If you're concerned about it not fitting in your vehicle and possible needing to return the seat I'd get it from target. Only target online carries the seat, but you can return to any target store.

We have one, and yes, I'd say it's worth the money. It has the highest harness slots of any seat out there, I believe. Which is important because a lot of kids outgrow seats by height first, so you want them as high as possible.

It's big, roomy, and plush. It doesn't turn into a booster, but I figure by the time DS outgrows it, he'll be ready for a $20 backless booster. Hopefully, anyways.

We bought it because DS was nearing the rf'ing limits of the marathon and it looked like he was going to outgrow the marathon by height very young (he has a freakishly long torso), so we sold it while we could (my sister needed it) and put the money towards the regent. The only issue I have with it is it's sooo roomy that DS's head slumps pretty far to the side when he falls asleep. But I just put a rolled up blanket between his head and the side of the seat. I think an older kid wouldn't have as much of a problem.

You have to read the instruction book very carefully when you install it. There are a few different variations of install, so you have to pick the best one for your car and it can be a bit confusing and tricky. It wasn't hard to install though.

The Regent is a forward facing only seat which utilizes a 5 point restraint up to 80 pounds. It is not a booster seat. You must top tether this seat when your child reaches 50 pounds and more. So consider this prior to purchase. If your car does not have top tether locations, it can be retrofitted for little if any cost. I have a 6 year old in the Husky (Regent is it's new name) and he is around 70 pounds. It is a great seat if it can fit in your car. Read the instructions closely for proper installation and have it checked by a CPS tech.

Dallas, does it need to be tethered even if you are using LATCH? I didn't think so.

Anyway we have one for ds and love it, he is 5.5 and barely 40 pounds it's great and we love it, true it's doesn't rear face or fit on planes but we are fine with that.

It fits great in both our Ford Windstar and our Honda Civic

It's totally worth it.

I have a 3 in 1 seat.. from newborn til 80 lbs.
It is rear facing, and forward facing.
I still have my son in the 5 point harness and he is 2 1/2.. 30lbs.
I will keep him in it untill it no long fits his height, and then i will switch him to a regular car seat belt.

I just looked up this Britax Regent seat , and it is pretty much the exact same thing as my sons seat except the Britax Regent doesn't rear face.

Seeing you can raise the height of the harness i don't think you should have a problem unless your child is taller than the average child under 80lbs...
It seems to me like you can't use a regular seat belt with this seat instead of the harness, so as long as your child remains under 53 inches in height until hes 80 lbs, you shouldn't have a problem.

LATCH actually stands for LOWER ANCHORS AND TOP TETHERS FOR CHILDREN. So if you are using the Latch system, you will be utilizing the lower anchors and have it top tethered. The Regent/Husky can be installed with the lower anchors until 48 pounds. When your child hits 48+ pounds you must discontinue using the lower anchors and install it with the vehicle belt. They recommend top tethering at all times even if it is not attached to the car using the lower anchors. However it specifically states in the present manual that you MUST top tether when your child hits 50+ pounds. Hope this makes sense. Verify this info with your specific manual that came with your seat.

Your 3-in-1 seat can only use the harness to 40 lbs where the Regent can harness to 80 lbs. Also, the top headrest position is not for harness use, only booster mode, so the harness may be outgrown before he is ready for a booster.
