I am going crazy. I never remember what I have (and how much) in the pantry and chest freezer. So I end up purchasing things again, which defeats the purpose of stocking up when things are on sale. So I'm thinking I need to start taking inventory- but how? Any of you know of a good method for an unorganized person? Perhaps some printable sheets or something? Tell me your secrets!

I am trying to. At least for the meat in the freezer. That helps me with grocery shopping and meal planning. Nothing very complex, though. Like, I have a sticky note on the freezer that says:

chicken 10
steak 12
ground beef 8

meaning that's how many of each I have frozen at the moment.

I should do this for flour, sugar, pasta, etc. because I find myself guessing and just buying extra anyway.

maybe an excel spread sheet you can update? I dunno, sounds like too much work for lazy me

Are there certain cuts of meat/assort. that you buy regularly? I have made a printout sheet graph on the computer with the types of things I stock in the freezer including bread, milk, frozen veggies and the list the size I typically get say 46oz for veggie bags. Then I had it laminated at an office store and attached a magnet to the back and keep it on my freezers. each time I stock up with something I place a stick mark on the chart. I erase 1 mark as I pull 1 out. At a glance I can see five marks for five gallons of milk and so on. It has simplified a lot so that when Im running out the door I can just take a glance and see what I might be running low on or what I have enough of for awhile.
