Hi, all.
I just found out my fabulous, unflappable mom may not be able to make it for the birth of our first (due start of August), and I'm starting to think about finding someone else as a support person. My dh will be there with me (at the Roosevelt Birthing Center w/ CBS midwifery), but I'm feeling that having someone there who has birthed naturally before and could help me labor before I check in would be of enormous help both to me and dh.
The problem is that dh and I are both full-time students, and while I'm completely convinced that a good doula is worth every penny, we just don't have many pennies lying around. Has anyone worked with a doula who uses a sliding scale or occasionally donates her services? I got a list from dona of student doulas, but I'd really like a personal recommendation--dh in particular is nervous about having a relative stranger with us.
TIA! If you don't feel comfortable posting, I'll keep on eye on my PM box.
Nancy
