Do you prefer hidden snaps? Why or Why not?

Do you have a preference or opinion on whether diapers should have hidden snaps or not? A diaper with hidden snaps has no snap heads on the inner of the diaper. Some moms report that snap heads can press against or irritate baby.

If you want to see the difference between hidden snaps or not, go here. .

My preference is for hidden snaps, even though I have plenty of great diapers without them and I've never seen a round snap mark on my son's skin or any other evidence of irritation. I just think that it must be more comfy to have fabric rather than hard plastic bumps against your skin.

What do you think?

For covers it doesn't matter right? But for diapers I prefer hidden even though it doesn't bother my baby. I have a few with non-hidden snaps and love them! Just do prefer them without. I think it has to do with the kind of snap too!

I pretty much won't buy diapers unless they have hidden snaps. I hate seeing the little red marks on ds's waist and tummy when I take the diaper off. It's one of the reasons I like SOS so much, and why I've never tried to get a pinhead. Of course, I have no problem with velcro either.
It doesn't matter in the least to me. I have never had Jack get irritated by a snap cap next to his skin. A stud or a socket next to his skin would be a whole different story though.
I prefer hidden snaps. I have bought diapers that did not have hidden snaps, without knowing it until I received them. Alhtough I've kept and used some, I didn't make any repeat purchases.
My personal peeve though is when the snaps aren't hidden on the snap-in soakers. I love Lillibottoms, but the one thing that ever kepts me from buying more than one is the exposed snaps on the soaker.
This was the biggest pet peev with Kissaluvs. I have the 0s and on a newborns skin is so soft and sensitive that those snaps just left awful marks. It doesn't seem to both my older ds at all though. Michelle
funny you posted this, because i have just recently decided to revamp ds's stash with bigger sizes and i'm trying to decide what fitteds to get because they have to have hidden snaps. i used to be really insistent on buying dipes with only hidden snaps, but when i bought my nb dipe stash i just went crazy buying everything and didn't think about it too much. now i have abunch of dipes i won't use, like snapdragons, because the snap in soaker snaps into the back without hidden snaps and my baby lays on his back a lot.

the nb dipes i have with hidden snaps are khw, bbh, nanipoos, country cuttins, mollytogs, elbees, and mudpie babies smalls. the kissaluvs, rbs, and fcbs don't have hidden snaps. i am sticking to only hidden snaps from now on.

i know some dipe making wahms say that it's easier to replace the snap when it's not hidden, but i still prefer hidden for comfort especially on a small baby who is lying down a lot.

From an aesthetic point of view I prefer hidden, although from a making and repairing point of view, they are a pita to fix if ever need be. Most of my dipes, though, are not hidden and they only leave marks on ds if they have a fold-down row of snaps that fold into the diaper (like Sugarpeas ... although with these I position the soaker so that it helps cover up the sockets when folded in). So, overall, I don't really have a preference.

Okay, I am clueless here. I saw the pictures of hidden verses visible snaps. I get that part. But how on earth do the snaps actually snap and stay snapped with fabric in bewtween? Is there a website that shows how to put in hidden snaps? I have a Honey Boy pattern (for Applix) and am waiting on supplies in the mail in order to make my daugter diapers to switch to cloth so please forgive the 'dumbness' of the question. My big pet peeve with her diapers now it that her skin is sensitive and the tabs make marks on her.
From this point on I will only buy dipes with hidden snaps. I was clueless when I was buying dipes for my oldest ds (when he was a newborn). Now that he is older he tells me that he gets "hurts" from the dipes with unhidden snaps. I also notice the red imprints of the snaps on his skin if the snaps aren't hidden. I gotta think that it does indeed "hurts" to have a plastic snap pressed against your skin.
I prefer the snaps to be hidden but I have loads of dipes where the snaps that are not hidden. I have to be careful w/ them though b/c they do leave marks on Bret and once he had 2 little bruises on his hip bones... I am not sure if they were from snaps or not, but I felt horrible!!!

The only part that is hidden is on the female snap part, but it's just the back of the snap that is hidden... the front is still visible. The WAHM has to put the snap on before she sews the layers together. For the male snap part, the entire snap is showing (that probably didn't help much... maybe someone else can explain better?).
Given the choice, I'd have them hidden, but it's not the most important factor for me. Some of my favorites do not have hidden snaps.
Thanks for all the interesting replies so far, I'm bumping for a few more!

Hidden snaps are a must have for me with side snap diapers but exposed snaps in certain types of front snap diapers (like MEOS) seem to be OK, I think it just depends on how tight the fit is where the snap rests against my dd's skin.
either is fine with me

I actually prefer non hidden, but thats from a sewing perspective mostly, LOL. They are a real pain to fix if they break :LOL

But from a consumer/diapering mom perspective.... every diaper I have had with hidden snaps have larger wings to accomdate being able to serge around the wing without hitting the snap with the presser foot.... I just dont like it cause it adds extra bulk to the front of the diaper where its not needed.. kwim ?

But overall it doesnt really come into play when i am deciding on diapers to buy

I prefer hidden, just because DD is so skinny that depending on where the snaps are, they dig into her hip bones.

We have both, but we really prefer hidden snaps. Ds is a skinny minny and we get snap marks a lot. I still buy dipes with snaps showing though, but dh on the other hand...he inspects all the new diapers and says, "oooooh, the snaps are showing, I hate that!" He's too funny. :LOL
i prefer hidden. i would probably have a whole stash of firefly diapers if they had hidden snaps. i do have a couple diapers without, but not many.
