Try as I might, I can't resist talking about myself in the third person!!

"Look! Mommy's getting the laundry out, mommy loves laundry!"
"Can you give Mommy a big smile?"
"Mommy loves you SO much!!"
Do you do this to?

I can't stop from calling myself Mommy, even with my nearly 3 year old.
"Mommy doesn't like it when you do that to her...." "Can you bring the such-and-such to mommy please?" It drives me crazy to hear myself talking like that, yet I just can't refrain!

Oh yeah, even to my 4 yo! Its a sick sad thing, I've been wondering lately if maybe I might be messing up their intelligence in some way. I know I feel dumber after having listened to me refer to myself in the 3rd person for the umpteenth time each day.

Yup I do it all the time too. It wasn't something that came naturally for me at first, but I read in The Baby Book that it helps the little ones to understand how names apply to people when you use 3rd person for yourself and use baby's name a lot early on, so I made the effort and it stuck... and now I can't stop myself!

Yeah, I was going to point this out too . . . don't feel guilty--it's recommended to do this by Dr. Sears, so it must be a good thing to do!

It doesn't bother me that I do this . . . I like being able to hear me talking about myself as "mommy" or "mama". I feel a little rush of pride and pleasure that finally, I'M the one being referred to as mommy because I'm a mother now!!! And to such an awesome baby!!!

Now as far as the fact that I've already been doing this for 8 years with my dogs . . . well, that's another matter!

I do both. I say "Mama loves you!" And "I love you!" And "Mama loves Guinevere!" and "I love Guinevere!" etc., as well as "Come to Mama!" and "Come to me!"

I mix it up so she'll know proper names AND pronouns, but I used to be an English teacher and it bugs the crap out of me when children (and adults) don't understand proper pronoun usage.
But I figure it's never too early to start....

I do this too. Somewhere I read that babies don't understand that "you" and "I" can refer to different people and that it's better to use names (Mama, child's name, etc.) until they reach that cognitive ability. But, I don't remeber when that was - details, details!

I totally do this. My best friend says it reminders her of her grandma..."go get grandma something to drink". Hee hee...hopefully I won't still be doing it when my ds is 15.
