Trying to decide whether to get the flu shot--I'm due really soon...I do have the mercury-free one available...The only reason I'd get it is if there is evidence that my baby would also get anti-flu antibodies? Trying to decide if my daughter (who is 6, but immunosuppressed, so she qualifies to get it if we want her to) should get it as well...

I sort of want compelling evidence to talk me out of any of us getting it--like maybe that it doesn't really help or can cause damage even without the thimerosol, but I can't find anything online, only sources that all say what a great idea it is...?

Anyone have thoughts...?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think getting a flu shot during pregnancy/soon post-par. helps baby's immunity?

No. Resounding no.

Breastmilk helps a baby's immunity.

IMO, the flu shot isn't a great idea. I believe the mercury-free vax is live, so you'd have shedding potential...probably not a good idea for your daughter. Have you thought of posting in the vaccine forum? There's tons of info to be found there!
Personally, my family will remain flu shot free this winter.

Good luck whatever you choose! And congrats on your impending birth!

I would never get a flu shot when pregnant. There is more than just mercury that is harmful in a vax.

We don't do flu shots, pregnant or not. There should be some good resources for answering your questions in the vaccine forum !

I don't think it's a good idea. My gut feeling on the flu shot is that it's not natural and therefore not good for me or my baby.
I also take into consideration that a lot of the propaganda saying it's good is coming from companies who will benefit off you getting the shot. Also doctors just don't seem to understand the natural course of a body, they're only trained to fix broken bodies. So don't get it, you're not broken.

I think just BF your baby and keep any sick people from handling the baby and both of your immune systems should be fine.

Absolutely not. The vax has never been tested on pregnant women.

Take a look in the vaccination forum here for tons of great info. We don't vax at all.

Vaxing while pregnant (and in general) is just not a good idea, no matter the vax. My family is just finding out that my daughters "eye condition" may have been caused by me getting the tetnus vax while I was 5 wks pregnant. I was bit by a dog and I had no idea I was pregnant not to mention I was poorly informed about vaxes at the time either way. After I found out I was pregnant I asked my doc if the vax could have harmed the baby and he said "no" well it seems like he was WRONG. Basically my DD can barely see black and white shadows in her right eye, only 10% vision, nothing can be done now to fix it. :
I would not chance it.

Come over to the vaccination forum and research vaxes for your baby before birth!

I'd say no way, especially for something like the flu. I was not too fond of vax before, but my MW loaned me her copy of Aviva Jill Romm's book, Vaccinations: A Thoughtful Parents Guide.

This book is full of such good information that I actually enjoy it. She presents the information in a mostly non-biased way. If you have ever wondered how honest the CDC, vax manufacturers, and doctors are, then read this. In some cases more than 75 percent of Obstreticians and Pediatric doctors refuse different vaccines.

I really don't want to use vax on my child, esp. after what AJR's book says, but things are taking place in my life that will most likely require baby and I to travel to Africa and other places outside the US. So I am trying to become well informed about the decisions I will be making.

Good luck.

Negative. I wouldn't get the flu shot.

I just do what I always do....I don't get the shot & don't get the flu... and certainly wouldn't get the shot while pregnant.
