I just want a little reassurance here.

My ds, aged 8.5 never retracts his skin. I saw a ped uroligist who told me, when ds was about 4, to leave it be. I asked for how long and he said as long as he wants to. Don't ever force it back, even if he is older. As he begins to have several daily erections the skin will slowly loosen and he will begin to play and retract it himself.

I know by instinct that leaving it alone is right. I forceably retracted it on the 'advice' of a family Dr prior to this trip to the ped and have of course regretted the undue pain and trauma I caused by doing such.

I guess I am looking for some other similar stories. Sometimes it seems by son is the only one his age that doesn't retract. I am NOT in any way considering having him cut, just wondering how old other kiddos were/are when they started retracting.

my son is only 3 but I just wanted to say that your doc was right. He will be fine. I would worry if he was well into the teen years and not retracting yet. If I am not mistaken Frank put a stat up saying that only 10% of 10yos are retractile. And 2/3 of 6yos are retractile. I am sure he will be along shortly to say for sure. Peace to you momma!

*Ahem!*

Well.... And MY comment was that my 6 1/2 year old still can't retract completely, though he's been mostly retractable for years. I think my 2 1/2 year old could retract but he never does. I saw him ONCE, but not sure how far it went and he hasn't done it since. (Obviously we don't ask them to do so. They never retract and rinse in the bath- and on the odd time my eldest HAS, there hasn't been any reason to do so....)
