Hi there! I know I have asked this before but I only got a couple responses and the doctors suggested were in Westchester, I think. So I guess I'll try again and see if I can get some more responses.

We live in Poughkeepsie and are currently taking our kids, 2 years old and 3 months old, to a doctor in Hyde Park. I am unhappy with the practice. The doctor is very authoritarian and told me to start giving my 3mo vitamins b/c there aren't enough "nutrients in breastmilk."

: He also seems to give abx "just in case", said that we *must* start solids at 6 months b/c there isn't enough iron in breastmilk, etc. Oh yeah! And he told me to supplement with formula when my milk hadn't come in ONE DAY postpartum! The practice in general annoys me. They have formula samples all over the place and the nurses always assume we bottle feed and pronounce my daughter's name wrong. I don't even want to bring up doing an alternate vaccination schedule because they have been so unreceptive to any views unlike their own. Anyway, we need a new dr for the kids asap!! Does anybody know of one in Dutchess County? Or even Ulster. I just don't want to drive more than, say, 40 minutes to get there. We do vaccinate, but I want a dr who would be open to spreading the vaccines out and who is *informed* on the issue. A breastfeeding-friendly dr of course would be a must.

Any suggestions???

i live in beacon and we haul it down to croton. i never bothered to really research the choices in dutchess. maybe ask someone in the la leche league?

I'm in Woodstock and DS goes to Dr. Peter O'Connor in Kingston. He's in the Pine Street Pediatrics practice, which is huge and I don't know much about the other Dr's. Dr. O'Connor has a separate office and so far has been great. Very laid back, yougish (early 40's?) has been very supportive of BFing so far. We're also vaxing so I can't say how is stance is on delaying, but when I spoke to him about my thimerisol concerns, he did say that they had the individual dose flu shots for little one's. It seems to be very hard to find a good ped in the area. I asked my doula and he was her best recommendation but it was clear that she didn't have a "favorite" or "perfect" ped in the area. So far so good with him though, I feel like he "trusts" us as parents, it seems that many peds don't always do this.

I am in Hopewell and have been here for a year and a half. I love my doctors down in Westchester and so far have not found anyone up here. I did go yesterday to TLC Pediatrics in Fishkill (they also have a Poughkeepsie office). My oldest saw Dr. Deborah Dunn. The office was convenient (right near Walmart) and I was happy with the service but not thrilled. I had a specific circumstance to see the dr. though so I can't really judge by that. Dr. Dunn is young (30's), very easy to talk to, friendly and seemed capable. I went to see her due to an ADD evaluation my daughter received and I wasn't real thrilled with the results. Within 20 minutes she suggested medication without even seeing Alyssa's past records. I would guess that for colds and stuff they are o.k. but would not go to her for anything specialized although they do advertise themselves as being ADD specialists.

Hope this helps. Will I use her as my pediatrician? Not sure yet. But I can tell you that my daughter is not going on meds anytime soon!

Have you looked into any peds in Newburgh? I know there are tons there and I wish I could remember the name of our previous ped there... But it's another option... Call St. Luke's Hospital and they may be able to help you. (Newburgh is only about 30 minutes or less from Fishkill)

We just had a visit with our ped in Hyde Park today. She is the pediatrician of the Family Practice Center on Crum Elbow Road and we really like her! She always spends a lot of time talking to us during appointments and follows up on our concerns (I am often surprised she remembers so much since the last visit).
