Hi --<br><br>
We'll be moving to the region in about a month, and I'd like to have a doctor lined up for my 5 month old when we get there -- for the odd emergency if nothing else.<br><br>
For the moment we are not vaxing, and we need someone who will respect that. I guess these probably go together, but also someone who won't mind holding off on medications until absolutely necessary, etc.<br><br>
I did try to poke around old threads, but because I don't know the area well, things like "near X highway" mean nothing to me. I'm hoping people will have recommendations and be able to give me a rough sense how far they are from Silver Spring.<br><br>
I'm looking for either a pediatrician or a family doctor. Old school is best (my current doctor looks like he's just itching for a black bag and a horse-and-buggy -- and his recommendations sound like that too!).<br><br>

My husband and I lived in SS until recently. We had a great family doctor--a practice in Wheaton, which is part of SS. The practice was called, I think, Henkin, Lenkin, and Schumaker, or something like that. The doctor we used was Shashank Patel, and he was fantastic. Not a crunchy doctor, but not judgmental, and very good. The practice is technically internal medicine and geriatrics, but he was my PCP (and I'm 26 now, so I was not geriatric!).<br><br>
The caveat is that I think their practice was moving to Olney. That's not too far from SS, but it's not in town anymore. They were still in Wheaton when we moved, but you might find that they're farther away than you want to be.

Thank you! Olney isn't that bad, and if he's a great doctor, it could definitely be worth it.<br><br>
I should add, my grandmother lives near College Park, so I'll be spending a fair bit of time there and will never mind an excuse to visit -- so ... any recommendations out that direction are warmly welcomed.

Dr Robert Ginsberg an FP who is also Ayuvedically trained and open minded. He can see the whole family. We would still see him if our insurance hadn't changed.

Wow, it looks like he's actually covered by our insurance- you really like him?<br><br>

Aargh. I was so excited when I saw that Robert Ginsburg was covered by my insurance, but it turns out he stopped taking it last month.<br><br>
Any other suggestions?<br><br>
I also need an ob/gyn to see me on very short notice -- probably sooner than it would take me to choose a family practitioner. Recommendations?

Despite it's flaws, I'd still go to the maternity center for ob/gyn care. It still beats the hell out of a dr's office.

I used Capital Women's Care on Georgia Avenue; I liked Dr. Darrin Band and Dr. Heather Sine very much. I didn't like the other docs there. Dr. Sine was my favorite when I was pregnant. She delivered my baby.

For a ped, everybody seems to love Dr. June Fusner in Kensington (maybe 10-15 min from downtown SS). Our insurance doesn't cover her, so I can't say for sure!

I really like our pediatrician. Since we choose to vaccinate our kids, I don't have first-hand experience with their position on delayed vaccination, but I do know a couple of other parents who've tinkered with the vaccination schedule and didn't seem to have a problem with this practice. They are definitely on-board with delaying medication until absolutely necessary; one time when my daughter had an ear infection, they seemed positively relieved when I asked about coming back in a few days to see how things were going, instead of giving antibiotics right away. And when my daughter had croup, they didn't bat an eyelash when I called to ask when I could safely expose her to other children -- but not to make an appointment to have her come in.<br><br>

I think everyone in the practice is a mother, which I consider to be a big plus. And they're all very breastfeeding friendly.<br><br>
As for a gynecologist, I've been going for many years to the practice of Drs. Travers, Levitt, Berger-Weiss, and Seidel, and have always been happy with them. I would particularly recommend Dr. Berger-Weiss, who delivered my son in January and was fantastic at keeping the hospital from pushing any unnecessary interventions.<br><br>
