Does anybody deliver breech babies?

Hi there,
I am 39 weeks pregnant, i have a breech baby. My midwife will not attend me at home if baby still stays breech. My ob will only do a c-section. He says because i am overweight my vagina is too long and babies head can get stuck. Plus according to the ultrasound i already have a 8.5 lb baby ( i do realize these numbers are usually off).
I have not found anyone yet to help me deliver this baby in the hospital without wanting to induce me or do a ct pelvimetry. I am in the san fran area and UCSF seems to be my only option. But if i am going to deliver vaginally i want it to be drug free......
So my question is does anyone know of any midwives in this area who would be willing to take on a client so late in pregnancy. I will be honest there is a little fear on my part about having a vaginal breech at home, well i guess b/c of all the hype out there and also about what the ob mentioned about me being overwieght. However, I would appreciate encouraging stories about home breech births that can help alleviate my anxietyl. I am doing, chiro, acup, moxa, tilt everything to help turn baby. He did it once but turned back to breech.
Thanks for your time.

this question is more in general than just directed at you, but what if you just go into labor and refuse a c-section? like if you stayed at home til you were almost done and just went in, they can't turn you away.
That was my thought too.... I recommend this often for VBAC mamas in my area as NONE of our hospitals within an hour's drive will do them (and that is another sad story). The only drawback is that with less usual presentations there can be complications during labor, maybe you have read about this or talked to your caregiver? Learn about it and how to minimize them, do what you are comfortable with. C section has considerable risks involved as well, and makes postpartum so much more of a challenge, so I do not blame you for wanting to avoid it.
god, the last thing I'd want is an OB who says something like that to even attempt a breech. how ignorant!

keep looking. where are you located??
Hi I am located in Northern California, about 30 mins from San Francisco.
As for waiting till the last minute to go to the hospital, I guess I am more fearfull of having a practitioner attend me who is panicked and fearful of attending a breech birth. I don't want them to unneccarily pull on baby or do some kinda intervention that would harm baby.........

Thanks for you input
have you tried ways of turning your babe to vertex? moxabustion (chinese medicine/ acupuncture), Webster technique (chiropractic), tilt board, etc? i think in CA midwives are legally not supposed to attend breeches at home, but i'm sure there are some that might still do it.

i know there are some that believe baby's go breech for a reason and messing with it is asking for trouble, but i wouldn't trust an attendant who was not trained specifically to help at a breech birth, in a hospital or elsewhere.

hoping you find someone to attend your baby's breech birth or that your babe decides to turn vertex soon!

and wishing you a peaceful end of pregnancy and a safe and beautiful birth...

There is a homebirth mw named brenda capps that does breeches a lot. Do a search on google for her. I would definitely call her...she travels, too!
Go to www.midwifeinfo.com and search for brenda in calif....she's based in bakersfield. If nothing else she may be able to give u the name of someone in your area that does breeches. Good luck, mama!
If you feel confident in your ability to birth vaginally, you should do it. I do recommend a MW experienced with breech birth. Here is my birth story. Good Luck with whatever you decide. I've been on bothsides. I know it's a tough decision but if I'd had my known my MW I would have birthed vaginally the first time. They thought my first was big (8 lb) too but he was only 6 lb 14 oz.
Here is the link to my birthstory and another birthstory:

I would not recommend this because you really want someone experienced with breech regardless of profession. You need a handsoff approach and obs are not generally. Most have no experience with breech. You don't who you'll get when you show up at the last minute.
