Nitara's therapist offered me a job to type her reports. It's a great opportunity for me to do some light work at home. She's dyslexic so she writes them as best she can on paper and I type them out and print them.

The problem is I have NO idea how much I should ask for my work. She said her old typist charged per line but didn't tell me how much she was paying. Do you have any idea how much I should charge?

Thanks!

I tell most people not to get into transcription but I know that you have a background in technical writing, so I'm sure it will work well for you!

I've been in this for about 8 years now. I get anywhere from 8-10 cents a line, which means the service I work for charges at least 12.

I think 12 or 13 cents a line is a fair amount. That's about what a transcription service would charge her and that's on the low end! So, I'd say go between 12-15 depending on how difficult the work is, how much of it there is, and what you think is fair.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes and if I can be of any help!
Thank you!! I had NO idea where to start with negotiating a price. It would just be for her therapist, not for anyone else at this point. I just want some extra spending $$. KWIM?
