I have my 2nd one today and I'm not sure why, but I always dread them.
I love my midwife (haven't met the others in the practice, yet as they are new from when I had my last there), but I just do not enjoy going.

Plus I think I'll be getting the total work up this time (though they said before I could just have my records transferred from my complete physical last year, I think I'll still have to get all of the bloodwork. Wugh. I always come very close to passing out every time.) and that's never fun.

I'm a bit worried due to so many braxton hicks already and am afraid I'll have to quit working sooner than I want to. No basis for that worry, though.

I'm taking the tot with me so she'll get to hear his heartbeat and I know she'll enjoy that. I am assuming we'll schedule the big u/s, too since I'll be 20 weeks on Christmas day so that'll be nice. (I work all of Christmas week, though so it'll have to be after.)

I just do not enjoy being a patient at. all. *sigh*

I kinda get what you're saying. I dreaded it the first few appts because I was just getting to know my midwives, and while I think they are super awesome I just didn't feel ready to get to know anyone in "that way." I was psyched for every one of my apts with my DS's pregnancy but I felt abandoned and misled by those CNM's. I finally feel excited about my appts now. My next one (4th meeting with them) is this Friday. I look forward to the break from my toddler and some Christmas shopping by myself afterwards!!

It is totally mixed for me. I dread them b/c I am scared I am going to be told something is wrong or the baby has died but I really look forward to them on the other hand b/c then when I do hear that heartbeat it is such a relief.

I'm sorry you don't like appointments. Are you sure you love your midwife that much? Maybe someone else in another kind of setting would put you at ease more. Or maybe you can make the appointments less often, like every 6 weeks? I don't mind mine because it's just going over to her house to sit and visit a while, plus pee on a test strip and do a BP check. I opted against bloodwork besides the iron finger prick test since I'm sure nothing's changed since last time. I'm not a patient at all I feel, just a client and sorta friend.

And if it puts you at ease any, I had BH contractions all the time from 13 weeks until 41 with my first pregnancy and everything was fine. Extra water only curbed them a little bit, resting didn't help any.

I'm always really excited for mine, but then again I'm the weirdo who starts counting down to my next one as soon as I schedule it.
Like somebody else said though I do get nervous whenever they first start searching for the heartbeat.

I've always dreaded them, no matter where I went or how comfortable I was with my provider. I just don't enjoy being a patient at all and it's like pulling teeth for anyone to ever get me to the dr unless I am pregnant or so extremely sick, I just want it to stop.

It went okay. They did take lotsa vials of blood, but didn't do anything else other than heartbeat so that's good. She said 5th baby, bh are normal and just drink water (I generally drinks lots, anyway, though). Also, I've not felt many movements (I thought!), but when she was looking for his hb, I kept feeling bh (I thought). Turns out, baby keeps balling up under the placenta (anterior so the movements aren't as obviously movements, yet) and that is feeling very much like bh, too so some of it is him. He kept trying to get away from the doppler.

HB was 150.

U/s is to be scheduled in two weeks, but they have to call me when they have it scheduled (have to fax the request over and then tell me the date). Am hoping for it to fall after Christmas instead of before, but it kinda sounds like they want to do it before so...we'll see.

That's all we do, too other than my labs today.

I guess I'm just not a good patient no matter how little they do medical. heh Today we chatted a bit, she did the bp and hb and heard the hb. That's about it.

I will say I didn't click with her like I do the other than delivered my last one, but it was only my first time meeting her so my initial dread of going at all had nothing to do with that as I didn't know which one I'd see.

mine are just so boring. There really isn't anything to do. It seems like I go to one just to schedule the next. I'm not complaining that they are boring, heck no, I would rather a boring then eventful PGcy! Every month it's "how are you feeling" "fine" "ok see you next month"
I may do a different type of prenatal care next time.

Once I get 'more pregnant' they may get more exiting.

Is this your first? If not what's it like when you go in in labour, do you still mind being a patient then? Hope you don't mind me asking.
ETA, just went back and saw your sig and another post you made, so not number one
sorry bout that

I kind of liked my mw appts, but then again I didn't. I liked talking with her, but I wasn't crazy about all the testing when I knew things were fine. This time has been interesting.

I like them to be very hands off during labor. Don't touch me, no internals, let me do it alone unless I'm unable.

It's worked very well so far.
The last one I got an internal upon arriving and wasn't touched again until the mw did a bit of perrineal support so that I did not rip.

Ditto.

BUT...once the baby is moving and therefore I can keep tabs on it more I tend to not be so worried when I go to my appts.

I feel the same way. I have lots of questions for my appointment this Thursday. I'm worried about a few things, and on the one hand I'm looking forward to getting answers, on the other hand I'm nervous the answers won't be good ones.

Not to hijack the post, but I have an appt tomorrow and I'm definitely apprehensive b/c the last time we could not hear the hb (I'm 15 weeks now so hopefully it won't be an issue!). I certainly feel pregnant and am still feeling icky so I'm sure the baby is fine...but still! I am feeling the pre-appointment dread coming on!!

(((Wendy))) We couldn't hear mine at the last appt. either (like 13 1/2 weeks?). It was there and thumbing today despite trying to get away from her. Hope yours isn't shy for you this time.

Thanks and congratulations on hearing your L/O today--how exciting!!! I think we will be able to hear it tomorrow--I hope! I've got this stupid retroverted uterus that is also starting to prolapse (yippee!!) so everything is very very low. I bet if she put the doppler on my tailbone we could hear the baby just fine

Hope little one cooperates this time! I admit I was worried yesterday about that, especially since I brought the tot along to "hear my baby brother", but I think now that we're getting all squishy and out of room in there, babes won't be able to run and hide too far!
My mw tried really low for him and he ended up being about half way between the pelvic bone and my belly button. (Uterus is just above my bb right now.)
