I have a pic but don't know how to send it on here yet...But when my LO's were newborns I just put a receiving blanket under them to take up space and support their head and laid them in it so their head was on the same side as the ring. So they were sort of half sitting half lying down. They snuggled in and slept for hours like that

Oh and off topic but Happy Canada day I notice you are from BC...I am in the US now and lived on Vancouver Island for years and miss it terribly

I have one of my dd at six weeks... but I also don't know how to post it or anything. But I would froggy her legs and put her in upright, tummy to tummy.

Zolowear.com has a great online video that shows exactly what to do for a newborn carry. It has totally helped me. I love my ringsling now.

Your newborn may look awkward inside the sling. However, just remember that your newborn has been in the womb in an awkward position for past 9 months. So, however your baby is lying down does not bother him/her. It may bother us, but not them.

It gets easier as your baby gets older and has better control over his/her neck.

I recently ran across some pics of DS in the sling and kept thinking how cute he looks, and remembering how contented he was in there as a newborn. So I posted them if you want to check it out: http://henry-thiem.smugmug.com/gallery/5307806_rd9ks. He's 6 weeks old in these pics.

The sling is a ring-style, Over The Shoulder Baby Holder. I would adjust the fabric on the underside and the ring position until his head was in the right position, not so deep in the sling that the fabric covered his face. You can also use a small pillow or folded up blanket to help with the head positioning. It's a semi-upright position, not horizontal, that's what he seemed to like best. He was quite happy in there awake or asleep and it made it easy to get stuff done without putting him down (which of course he didn't like at all )

Thanks ladies....you are right, he looks so akward in it! Thats all I have though, and a mei tei which I don't want to use until he is bigger. He loves the snuggli but it kills my back.

i think the best ring sling instructions and videos are on the zolowear website, which i'm pretty sure is just zolowear.com

lots of babies don't like the cradle hold - i always do a T2T carry with a newborn in a ring sling, and turn their head to one side of the other so it can rest on your chest just below your chin. make sure baby is nice and high - have the carrier more like at your ribs than at your waist - to be sure s/he's nice and snug and secure.

Just so you know, the mei tie would probably work great right now, as would the ring sling. You can froggy his legs inside it. It would be much for comfy for you than the Snuggli. Those things can be back breakers.

I prefer the vertical hold for newborns unless nursing.

Some are old and have the old address on it... my youngest is almost 1!

I have instructions on the site too if you want a link to those. If you take a picture of yourself with your sling, I can help you figure out what is wrong.
