I have JUST started trying elimination communication with my almost-three-week-old daughter, and I would love to meet other moms who are doing this! It seems so crazy to me still, even though at the same time it makes so much sense to me. Anyway, I'd also love to meet other mothering moms in the area...I have just become a SAHM and it's weird being home all day! I live downtown, in Grant Park...anybody else in the area looking to get out of the house with LOs?

Hi, Lisa:

Congratulations on the baby!

If you don't already know about it, you might consider getting involved with the play groups (and activities) offered through the Grant Park Parent Network. They are having a Spring Fling in two weeks at the park.

My 2 yo son and I participate in a play group (the Elephants) and have found it a great way to connect with others. I doubt there will be any ECer's but you can help spread the word! I live around the corner in Boulevard Heights.

Here is the link to their page: http://www.grantparkparents.org

Best to you! Maybe we will get to meet sometime.

tamarw: yeah, I'd love to get together! PM me with some good times...during the week during the day is best for me since that's when I'm sitting around at home.

ravenscraft: yes, I'm signed up on the Grant Park Parents Network, but I don't understand how the playgroups work. Although it's probably a little early for me to take her out with a playgroup...? But I did find an email for the person in charge of all the playgroups; should I just email her? I would love to join one but I don't know if there is one for our age yet.

Definitely email. I think you would be in the Tigers group. And, as there become more babies in your LO's age group, they will split off into another group if they haven't already.

The first one that I went to DS was maybe 6 weeks old. I didn't start going regularly until he was 1 yo or so. Of course, the playgroup until they start walking is less for the babes than for the caregivers that take them! It can be a nice way to connect with neighbors (and near neighbors like me), though. At the very least, when I first started going it was nice to have a regular activity to go to and motivate me to get out of the house and interacting with other people.

We did it part-time with ds. I learned about it from someone in Decatur when he was about 6 months old, and I just started putting him on the potty for poops (easier to predict by far than pees!) and immediately after waking for pee. But when we went out, he wore a diaper. I'm not good enough at it to go out and about without one!

But even part-time, it was wonderful for us! He was already used to using the toilet, so there was no time that we decided to 'start potty training'. It was just kind of seamless. I started taking him out in underwear just before he was two, so that's the age I tell people he was fully using the toilet. We didn't know abut EC with my dd, and she was over 3 before she was out of diapers. EC is awesome.
