My mom and I were talking about soaking laundry- and how it breaks down natural fibers faster than if you don't. I started thinking that it's probably not good for dipes to be sitting in the pail, soggy with urine and water (I dry pail but every dirty dipe gets sprayed for a loooong time w/the mini shower, so they're dripping when they go in the pail) for 2 days or so. It's basically like soaking the dipes for that long, right? DD is 17 mos old and we go through maybe 10 dipes a day, give or take. I'm thinking about washing every night just so the dipes aren't sitting in the pail. Is this overkill, or will it help extend their little lives?

Well i've been thinking about this for a while. I'm going to be cd my first baby in about 2 months. I know doing laundry daily with a newborn will be very hard but now i do atleast 1-2 loads of laundry a day so why not make on of thoes diaper in the future....

I wash every day. I want my diapers to last. Building a stash has been a large investment and I like them to be clean and fresh with no stains. I've started throwing the boys' shirts in so that I have a large enough load. I rotate my diapers so that I don't wash the same ones everyday.

I wash every other day for sure, and sometimes daily. It basically boils down to if Im doing laundry at all. If Im doing laundry (kid, adult, bed, bath) doesnt matter I end up doing diapers that day too, usually I wash some of our towels with diapers on an off day because I dont have enough of their own to do a load. I love to have them clean, and I tend to use the same ones over and over and wash them quickly so I can keep using 'em.

I don't think I'd wash anything other than prefolds everyday. It seems like washing that often would be just as hard on the fibers as soaking, kwim? Maybe even more of a beating for fitteds and such... just a thought.

Cheryl, you brought up a good point. So, is soaking in urine, water, yucks, etc. more or less damaging than going through the washing machine more often? Of course if you rotate so that the dipes aren't being used/washed every day, it might be better....

I wash almost everyday out of necessity - two in dipes. I could probably go about 4-5 days w/o washing but then I would still have to do 4 loads of diapers.

As for diapers breaking down, I've noticed certain brands last longer than others and take more of a beating
and I'm not convinced that soggy diapers sitting in a pail break down any faster. I believe the washing machine, detergent and the dryer does most of the damage.

I usually wash every day though i could certainly go 2 days. I just like a slightly smaller load. I feel like they get cleaner. If i do go 2 days the machine is often too full and I'm just not sure about that. So most mornings I throw the diapers in first thing and then hang them out and forget about them until evening so I'm sure everything is dry.

I could go two days, but I usually wash every day because I like to line dry my diapers and I never know when it's going to rain. The day after I don't wash diapers seems to always be when it rains, and I think diapers last longer if they're line dried. My washer is an old one from the 70s that we got for $100 so I'm not worried about wearing it out by using it all the time or anything...

Exactly the same here.

I wash daily out of choice. I dry pail, so the dipes aren't sitting in water, and Holden only poops once a day - at the same time every day - right before I start the diaper load, lol! But I wash daily because, eventhough I have tons of dipes and could go about 3 days betweenwashing, I want my favorites to always be clean and available!

I wash about every other day. I have two in dipes, and I don't like to be overwhelmed by diaper laundry (along with all the other laundry). Dh helps a lot, too, so it's not so bad. I could probably go about 3 days w/o washing with our stash, but I'd have to do 2 loads anyway. I'd probably do it every day if my laundry room weren't in the basement.

Besides, diaper laundry is never a chore!

Our washer and dryer are in the kitchen -- even though they take up tons of room and aren't the best kitchen decor, lol, it just makes it so much easier to get the tons and tons of laundry we have done!

When I was Cding Tater, I often washed daily. I do laundry daily anyway and one more load made no difference. When I have my new baby in Feb., I will probably only purchase enough newborn dipes for a day and a half and do laundry daily. I am already building my med. stash.

I wash daily, I throw in towels to make up a full load. I rotate the diapers so they don't get used everyday. I have a small diaper pail, so it only takes a day to fill it up, and I don't want to have any stink problems, I guess I could go four days without running out of diapers but then I would have multiple loads to do so they would get clean
