I'm pretty new to cd-ing and I'm using mostly FB's with cpf's. I just started adding Borax to the wash water a couple weeks ago, and NOW my diapers stink. I use 1/2 cup or less and a couple tablespoons of generic detergent.

Is it just a coincidence, and maybe the detergent build up got bad right when I started adding the borax?

Also, I understand that it's best to strip with a lower water level, but I have a front loader so I can't adjust the water. Any thoughts??

My fuzzibunz were stinking too, I added about 5 drops of tea tree oil to the wash and so far I've seen a big improvement--of course I have no idea how long that will last though!!

i can't answer for certain but i would suspect it does not. i use borax and water to clean around the house, including mirrors, and they come out sparkling clean. i would think if there was build-up i'd see it on mirrors or windows.

Borax is so harsh, imo, so I wouldn't use it to begin with but I'm sure it, like any other additive, could build up over time. Maybe you need to strip your diapers?

I am not really sure I have never used it myself but I think I read some where that it will cause build up. I would recomend stripping your diapers. Use no detergent and as hot as you can get the water and just keep washing until you see no more bubbles. If you are still having a stink problem after that add a few drops of TTO to your wash it has really helped us.

Also, be careful of TTO. A lot of babies are really sensitive to it. I know mine is.

yeah i can only use about 3 drops to a large load any more then that at times will break my lil man out.

What stinks? The prefolds, the microfleece lining, the PUL or all of it? Does it stink out of the dryer or just when peed in?

If it just the prefolds, I would strip them with hot water washes and some TTO.

If it is the microfleece lining, I would scrub it with Dawn, then rinse really well in the washer.

If it is both, then I would do both. But I don't think TTO is the best stuff for your microfleece, I think it can make the microfleece repel instead of wick and also makes the polyester hold odors.
