Does burning with vinegar indicate yeast? TMI maybe.

I've had an itchy vagina for a couple days. Mostly external. The skin looks red but not rashy or bumpy. I searched thru archives here and they said to wash with 1:3 vinegar/water 2-3x/day. I just did my first and man, IT BURNED!! Is it supposed to? Does the burning indicate anything? DO I really have to go to the doc?

FYI, there's no discharge, foul odour etc. although my breastfed babe has a bit of untreated thrush in his mouth. Please diagnose me if you can, mamas!

I wanted to offer you a hug... I just went through something similar earlier this month. First of all, your poor skin must be so raw and irritated to burn that much! Maybe you could put something soothing on it like some coconut oil or even some plain yogurt, wash off, wait a little bit, then try again but much more diluted. I usually put a splash of raw apple cider vinegar in a small dixie cup and fill it 3/4 full w/h20. Then I put in some cotton balls and let them sink in. Head for the shower and swab/blot gently from top to bottom w/the super soaked cotton. Wait a few minutes then rinse w/h20. Go right to bed w/o panties. It may take a few days to completely heal. If you don't see any relief w/in a few days (which is what happened to me this month) I had to use a few sprays of silver in between acv/h20 applications. It made a big difference and a day later I was almost 100% better... Two days later - all better.

I can't answer your question specifically as to the burning meaning anything but the untreated thrush in your LO might be an indicator of a yeast issue being passed back & forth. The best natural product I have found for yeast is Grapefruit Seed Extract. I get mine at Vitacost.com and I tell you the stuff is amazing! I use it for so many things! It's very potent so it needs to be diluted but I use a spray bottle filled with water and put 20-30 drops of the GSE in it. It kills yeast very effectively so you can spray it on locally but it's also completely safe to ingest which means you can also kill the yeast internally. We take it mixed with some OJ (about 10 drops in a glass of OJ) because it is VERY bitter and the OJ is pretty much the only thing (other than grapefruit juice) that succeeds in masking the nasty taste
It can also be used in laundry (awesome for cloth diapers to keep them yeast & bacteria free), to treat dandruff, spray on produce to get rid of pesticides and make them stay fresh longer, disinfect cutting boards, etc. The list is really endless and there's a bunch of uses listed on the inside label of the bottle. You could probably find it at a natural food store too if you need to get a hold of it right away. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the suggestions. It struck me today that it could very well be irritation to bath salts! I had an hour of alone time the other day, a VERY rare commodity, and I indulged in a scented bath. Since my nethers aren`t used to anything but water and some soap the whatevers in the salts likely irritated them

Vinegar has helped already as has yogurt. If it isn`t better by tomorrow another suggestion may come into use.

That could definitely explain the irritation! In the future, you could try bath salts scented with a bit of pure essential oil (or skip the salt altogether and just put a few drops of lavender (or whatever) oil in the bath water. Soooo relaxing and less likely to irritate than the artificial fragrances typically used in bath products. Hope it's all better real soon!

The grapefruit seed extract is super effective for yeast! I would try that first since it's less full of yucky chemicals than the OTC stuff. Just my opinion though :p
