I was in a meeting with a senior member of management (VERY senior, as in high up the food chain) and he actually used the term "feminazi".<br><br>
We were joking around about Star Trek and I said I didn't like Captain Janeway that much, and he said "Oh, because she's a feminazi?"<br><br>
he used the phrase a couple more times in the conversation.<br><br>
I think using the term nazi can be offensive because of the REAL nazi's and what they did.<br><br>
But, am I being overly sensitive to think it's also pretty sexist to call someone this phrase?

Yes I think it's offensive because of what real nazis did. And yes I think it's extremely offensive to call women who want equality pejorative terms.

Yes, it's offensive.<br><br>
I'm suprised that anyone high in any management chain would use the term in a professional setting or while conversing with a colleague or employee.

You are not being overly sensitive. It is sexist, and I also don't like the word nazi being tossed aroud so causually. Personally, I would feel obligated to either discuss the issue with the person directly, provided my comapny had an open door policy, or report the person to HR, no matter how high up they were. But I know everyone's circumstances are different and you may not feel you are able to do that or wouldn't feel feel comfortable doing it.

Absolutely. It's really offensive.<br><br>
The comparison between Nazi's - bigoted murderers and Feminists - people genuinely interested in changing the world to be a more positive and equitable place for everyone is unacceptable. Always was, always will be.<br><br>
You are not being over sensitive.

And for what it's worth, I never really liked Cpt. Janeway either. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink">

Extremely offensive. Someone needs to report that guy to HR or whoever handles that kind of thing at your company. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">:

I am most definitely not a feminist and disagree with many feminist ideas, but I still think "feminazi" is an incredibly offensive term. "Nazi" is not a word that should be thrown around like that.
