Does this look right (mai tai hip carry)?

I can't seem to get the shoulder strap to stay on the shoulder. And honestly, it's not extremely comfortable. Not uncomfortable for the few minutes I had her on, but I might need to be able to carry her for extended periods of time (especially if she falls asleep.

I'm trying to figure out if I can get this to work for us for our trip to Italy or if I should buy something new. When I'm not wearing it, it takes up a ton of space when folded up.

I've been also looking at the EllaRoo mai hip or the Hip panda (www.hippanda.com/index.php). But not sure if dd can sleep in those. And I'm open to suggestions for other carriers that will get us through our trip to Italy.

Can't get the back carry in the mai tai for the life of me.

I can't really figure out the hip carry with a MT either.

And that does NOT look comfortable, not for a long journey.

Will you have your partner or other family with you on this trip? If so, back carries are easy, b/c you can have them put your child on your back and then tie her on. That's the ONLY way I can get DS into a back carry.

If you won't have anyone available to help her on to your back, gosh, I might actually buy a child backpack, one with straps and such (like the Kelty Kids style?) that makes a back carry not as difficult with putting her on your back then tying straps and such.

She just looks pretty big for that hip carry, and I think you'll be limping pretty quickly....

I really wanted to check out the hippanda place, but they are closed for orders through April, and their website won't let ya go anywhere! Frustrating.

Oh wow, I found out how to get into that website (nothing bad, just trying out words after hippanda.com/ LOL), and wow how cool is that!!!????!
I just fixed my link for the hip panda.

I like the look of it, but wonder if a toddler can sleep in it?
have you tried using Kelly from Kozy's instructions? http://www.kozycarrier.homestead.com/instructions.html They are awesome! If you are still having a hard time see if you have a NINO group by you. http://www.nineinnineout.org The people who run them are really helpful. Also, there is the tummy to tummy BW Video! http://www.tummy2tummy.com

Hope that will help w/ a back or hip carry. Otherwise I'd suggest trying a wrap.
It doesn't look the way it looks when we do the hip carry. And when we do the hip carry, it is very comfy, and babe can nurse and/or sleep in it.

Here are some pics of us with dd in the hip of our mei tai:

the lissa, what sort of mei tai is that?

to the OP, now that I see more pictures, I'm thinking maybe the seat part of the hip panda is too small for a toddler to be all that comfy for a long period of time.

Actually, my MIL made it. She made it with wider straps than most I've seen.
Cool! It looks like the Frankenkozy, which is a pattern I've seen.

IT could be. I dono't know ehere she got the pattern or if she just looked at pictures online or what. I sent her mei tai links to see pictures to see if she could make me one.
Thanks. It is really nice to have handy people in the family. I can sew a hole in my sock, but that is about it.
