I have been playing around with different combos of everything in our stash for night time. (Which isn't much, mainly prefolds, some Growing Greens, and a few hemp prefolds.)

I have tried using 2 premium PFs with a hemp doubler, which kept her somewhat dry.

I have tried a GG with a premium pinned over it.

The most recent attempt was a trifolded hemp prefold in a premium. This was the trimmest I've gotten her tush yet, and seemed to be the most absorbant, until the last few nights. She has woken up with her 'Crat damp to the touch.

Luckily we have yet to wake up with wet sheets, but I hate that she's sitting in a sopping diaper for so long.

Are fuzzi bunz good for heavy wetters at night? I really like using wool but if I can get her drier at night w/ FB I'll try it.

Thanks for any insight mamas!

She's a chubby little thing! LOL!

Can you change her once or twice at night?? That will help.

Also many moms find the Alexis Featherlite pull-on cover(not the ones on ebay) to be the most breathable, least expensive, NO LEAK cover ever.

You will kiss your self after using one of these. So trim under clothes, super easy to wash, and they last forever! Get 2 in the current size, and 2 for the next size up in case her thighs are a little too chubby, or she grows really fast!

also check out some more washing instructions for diapers. Maybe you have some fabric softener in your detergent, that makes your diapers not absorb as much as they should and the pee just rolls right off and soaks the cover and everything else.

Also maybe your wool cover is not lanolized enough, read up on how to lanolize it.

Hemp takes many washings in hot to get fully absorbent too, but it sounds like a softener build up may be happening here.

It takes at least 5 washes in HOT with a Teeeeeeny amt of reg detergent(try sensiclean) to get all that softener all the way out. Keep working at it, sometimes CD's take a little while to get the hang of. That's great that your putting your darlin in only the best diapers!!!

I have really been feeling the nighttime love with Little Beetles (not the lites, but the regular hemp ones) We have the snappi version so that we can get a custom fit, and also use the hemp doubler. The only other thing that we had success with at night was Firefly Sleep Tights, but they are quite pricey.

2 Little Beetle Size 2's with extra doublers and shipping cost us about $32.

SarahBay, thanks for the tips, but these dipes are well washed and broken in and we use no fabric softener. The wool is *very* well lanolized (I tend to overdo it). I am trying to avoid changing her at night 'cause she just started sleeping really well and will fully awaken if I change her. Then she'll just be awake for who knows how long wanting to play. And yes, she is quite the chubber!

HokieMum, would you mind letting me check your Little Beetles out when I stop by? (Which will be on the 17th btw, lmk if that is too long to hold those jars
) Dh would not be happy if I spent $30 on something I haven't even seen.
And your dc is a pretty heavy wetter?

IME, FB didn't work well for really heavy wetters. You can only stuff so much into the FB before they (and babe) complain, plus then you don't have the safeguard of wool (unless you also put wool on over a FB). I also stuff more in the front/middle than the back because ds just doesn't wet in the back.

So my suggestion would be...
Keep doing the tri-folded hemp prefold in the premium prefold, and maybe get a few hemp inserts (joey bunz or whatever) to use for extra absorbency in your dd's wet zone. Or use two hemp prefolds folded up. Then to keep her dry, go to your local fabric store and see if you can find some microfleece to wick the moisture away from her. All you have to do is cut the microfleece into the shape you want and you don't need to worry about serging/sewing up the edges.

HTH!

PUL pockets with fleece interiors (pick your brand) work well if you're willing to stuff them with about 3-4 hemp inserts. I daresay that I'm sure that there are some hemp fitteds that work well as night diapers too. PUL style covers work the best for leak inhibition - and since you're considering PUL/Fleece pockets PUL isn't an issue for you - but wool covers like Imse Vimse's (and I'm sure others as well) work well in our household for our 21 month old super-soaker.

You could try an Under the Nile fitted with a doubler. They're very absorbent, and inexpensive.

I'm struggling with nightime too and my biggest complaints are that anything that will hold is so bulky it is uncomfortable and also that a fleece liner doesn't cut it for wetness protection because dd still ends up with a soggy diaper on her all around her hips and everything. EW!

Only thing that worked for us at night was Hemp. Our first baby could sleep in anything and not leak. But, dd could only Granny's Ark WP aio shells with trifolded, fleece Hemp trifolds. This child could pee through steel, seriously it was that bad. Now, our DS uses our pocket of choice stuffed with Puffin Pants Hemp trifolds and a FCB hemp doubler. Although, I noticed that his absorbency level has since become more demanding, in which case I may have to add more doublers or switch systems
((My excuse to get some new fluff

Thanks for the suggestion! I am hoping to find something that works that isn't the size of a basketball at night. No kidding, this poor babe couldn't sit up sometimes it was so big.:LOL So the idea of using 1 diaper at night is really appealing

My son is a moderately heavy wetter (heavier than my daughter was, at any rate) and my new fave is a pocket fitted with a wool cover. You can stuff whatever you need into the pocket (we just use a hemp trifold), and you could easily add more. The one we have now is from schnoogly and we have a lullaby dream coming soon. You might also try a wool doubler.

My son is not a heavy wetter, so anything works for him. But for my daughter, we used a hemp diaper with a hemp trifold, with a heamp doubler, topped in microfleece on top. Then a good wool cover over that.

Its nice to have a lite wetter these days! LOL

I have yet to find a fitted that I'm comfortable leaving my 13 month old ds in all night. He soaks through the Growing Greens and the Firefly Nightlights in less than 4 hours and so likewise the superlanolized wool covers are saturated through by morning leaving dye marks on the sheets all the way through to the mattress for the things that have been hand-dyed. I'm still searching but like you, not happy to leave him in a sopping wet diaper all night.

We do FBs at night - stuffed with a couple hemp inserts and a microfibre towel or MOE insert on top of that and while it's totally soaked through by morning, he feels relatively dry with the microfleece and it doesn't leak out at all. We've had sporadic success with Luke's Drawers Nighttime Kisses - and in fact if the elastic fit better around the legs they would probably perform more consistently. Both of these options are trim enough that he can still waddle down the hall or sit up without looking like a bloated buddha!

I haven't read all the replies, so I don't know if anyone mentioned this or not...

I like Happy Hempys for nighttime. They are great stuffed with just one Happy Heiny stuffin and put under a Bumpy wool cover. (I use the ones HHs lined with fleece). I also sometimes use Fuzzi Bunz, which work well, but the first option is good if you want to use wool.
