Does wicking and leaking happen in spurts?

I went through this a couple of years ago with DD. DS seeped through his wool soaker and pants yesterday sitting to do a puzzle. Then in the afternoon a corner of his dipe stuck out and it wicked up over shirt and his sweater. Last night he peed through his night diaper and wool soaker at 10 pm since DH put too-tight jammies on his bum and then this morning he peed straight THROUGH a motherease AIO that I thought still had 'life in it'. Apparently not.

I'm hoping this is it for a while. Does it happen like lightbulbs? 4 will blow and then 2 years go by before you replace any more?
