My 7 yr old son was just Dx'd with ADD this past year based mainly on the fact that he has extreme difficulty paying attention in class, cannot follow verbal directions anywhere, and is somewhat impulsive. He occasionally is hyperactive, like after eating too much sugar. However, I don't think I agree with that diagnosis for him now. After some diet changes, the obvious inattention and impulsivity have greatly improved. Now, it looks like his primary problem might be language or auditory processing which can look a lot like ADD. If he never understands directions, of course he tunes out, it must be like listening to a foreign language. I guess that is more like what is clueing us into the possibility that it is not ADD? A lot of issues can look like ADD.
