We just got a sippy cup from Klean Kanteen and when you put the lid on it makes the most HORRIBLE squeaking sound. Every time. Is this a defective lid or cup or will it go away if I wash it or do they ALL do this?

DH and I are trying to decide if we want to buy ourselves a Sigg or a Klean Kanteen and want to know if this, erhem, musical accompaniment comes standard with the KK.

TIA

It's a standard feature.
There's a little rubber part on the lid that you can manipulate while you drink to keep it quiet, but otherwise every one of our bottles does this. We don't mind as we know that KK is healthier and cleaner then SIGG.

What's the deal with SIGG?

I'd assume because it's aluminum with an allegedly 'safe' epoxy (?) coating inside. (since aluminum's linked to alshiemers).

Our SPORTS caps do that. I prefer the loop cap myself. I lost my loop caps though, so have been using the sports one exclusively. I usually just unscrew the lid just enough to let the air even out without letting it leak the water.

The squeaking comes from the valve that equalizes the pressure as liquid is removed. I usually tuck it in the side pocket of my backpack, and you can even hear it squeaking away as the temperature changes (e.g. going from a warm building out to the cold winter air, or going from an air conditioned building out into the warmer ourside air, etc.)

if i loosen the lid on my kleen kanteen it does not squeak. it does however leak if i don't tighten the lid when i am done. i just keep it upright when i am drinking from it with the lid slightly loosened.
