I know male dogs like to mark their territory - the neighbor's dog broke his chain and was running loose so I grabbed him and brought him home until the neighbors can get home and get him. I have him tied out front because my dogs aren't receptive to another dog in the yard - as long as there is a fence between them, they are fine though. So, I keep going out to check on him, and he keeps lifting his leg all over the place, but only leaving a squirt or two, he keeps doing this like every few minutes. Is this normal doggy behavior or could it be a uti? I thought I'd discuss it with his owners when they come get him. He is always chained in the back yard (no fence) and I don't think they really pay much attention to him so they may not notice if there was something wrong.

oh - I gave him a bowl of water and some food out there, he's been drinking plenty.

he's probably just marking, but it wouldn't hurt to mention it to your neighbors so they can keep an eye on him.

Usually a dog that has a UTI has a VERY strong odor in his/her urine. Do you notice a pungent amonia smell? There doesn't have to be a smell but it's not uncommon and is a pretty definite sign especially if the UTI has gotten really bad. But right off the bat I would agree that he is probably just marking.
