D'oh! I ate soy sauce without thinking.

So...we're newly corn free as most of you know. Last night I made fried rice and, of course, used our wheat free soy sauce. I NEVER even stopped to consider the corn issue. In fact, DD had some of this directly as well. Once it hit me (2 of the ingredients are salt and alcohol) I started getting so scared for an awful night. Well....nothing - she had a fine night. Does this mean I don't need to worry about foods whose only corn issue may be salt instead of sea salt? Does it mean I could try to see if she tolerates me taking my vits? I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I was eating a lot of corn before (seemed a necessity without gluten) and wonder if she would be just fine with a small amount????

Usually, when I see foods containing "salt," I assume it's not iodized. Reason being, iodized salt is more expensive than plain table salt, so they're likely using the cheaper ingredient.

The main foods I can think of that I've eaten with salt have been canned beans or more rarely, vegetables. Never had a reaction in those instances.

Can I just say I'm JEALOUS that you get to eat soy!!!
: I miss soy sauce. I need to try that fake soy recipe with balsamic vinegar to see if I can replicate the flavor

I've never heard of this fake soy sauce recipe? Share! Share! Iwas making something the other day out of my Chinese Cookbook and started drooling over the picture of the Schezuan Chicken with Cashews. And I looked at all the ingredients that we can't have in it. But oh... if only I could find a soy sauce substitute...

I've found a bunch:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Soy-Sau...te/Detail.aspx (have to sub the boullion for a safe one; I've found a safe vegan one at WF)

http://chinesefood.about.com/od/sauc..._sauce_sub.htm

You can google for others, too, to see if there are some other possible substitutions.
I have found corn to be a peculiar and unpredictable bug. When you're no longer sensitive to EVERY derivative, then you are in no mans land. You just can't tell from reading a label how things are going to go. And its almost impossible to avoid EVERY corn exposure... so just do your best. When I was totally avoiding, I surely did my best to avoid EVERY thing that might be corny. Now, we seem to be outgrowing it - HOORAY... small victories!
I know it's kind of weird....I have to admit I was eating LOTS of corn chips, tons of things with "hidden corn" ingredients, my vits have corn and I was having a few corn tortillas per week. So...lots of corn. I seriously am wondering if maybe she would be okay with me having the hidden ingredient type of stuff but just steering clear of "blatant" corn. I suppose there's only one way to find out....Hmmmm. Do I dare? However, regardless....I am totally psyched that the soy sauce was fine - opens up lots of Asian options.
Can you use Bragg's Aminos? Its delicious! I also love that it comes in a spray bottle, its so convenient.

Chinese Pistache, why can you have soy sauce? It is the soy or another ingredient?

It's the soy. Though we can't do wheat either.

Well I could, yeah, but after the zero reaction to soy sauce I dont think I'll bother.

Hmmm... they both use beef bullion/broth. DD2 can't do beef. I could sub sorghum for the molasses though and make it except for that pesky beef thing. I miss soy sauce.... (but not soybean oil or lecithin!!)

I've used a couple safe vegan boullions before. Maybe check those out. Some extra salt might work, too.
