I have an eight-week-old son, Stephen. He has been having slow weight gain. After trying everything else (assessment from lactation specialist, support from LLL leader, breast compressions, fenugreek & blessed thistle, higher fat/calorie/protein diet for me, pumping with hospital-grade electric breast pump, supplementing with formula using SNS, etc.), I am planning to try domperidone.

I am trying to decide if I should stop taking the herbs (fenugreek & blessed thistle) before I start the domperidone. A lactation specialist told me to stop the herbs first, but I don't know if she had a good reason for recommending that.

Has anyone taken domperidone in combination with fenugreek & blessed thistle? Does anyone know of any information on the safety of doing so? (I don't know if the herbs have really helped at all anyway, but how can I tell?) Thanks!

I've taken them in combo and didn't have any problems. I'm sure there's been no study of any scientific sort. I would try it and keep a close eye on yourself for anything unusual.

I also took Domperidone and Fenugreek together (I had run out of blessed thistle though) and had no problems. In fact, my LLL leader told me to continue taking all of them and to continue pumping every two hours as well. Good Luck!!!!!
