I've heard that baby boys gets erections but I've never seen my almost 9 month old ds(intact of course) have one. He has a lot of naked time so that his little butt can breathe, lol, but I've just never seen it. Do they get them a lot?

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this, but I just want to make sure there is nothing wrong with him.

My son is 21 months, and I've never really noticed him getting erections either, although it will sometimes, as MRDCatLvr said, kind of stick up slightly.

I think there is a whole range of normal on this, so I wouldn't worry !

Only time I've ever seen it on either of my two sons is when they have "morning wood".. right after they've woken from sleep.
Same here. I only saw it early in the morning during the first diaper change of the day or after they'd woken up from a nap.
In any case, I wouldn't worry about your ds. He sounds perfectly normal to me.
I can't remember when I my ds started to get them, but he definitely does get them now. I've also seen them on my little nephews when they were toddlers but still in diapers.
I never saw an erection on either of my boys till they were around the 2 year range. Both times it was quite a shock when I opened their diapers and saw it lol.
I"ve never noticed my 1yo having an erection either, wasn't really sure if that was normal, but maybe I'm just not paying too much attention to his penis, either way, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this.
wow, i think ds had one his first week of life!lol!gets them everyday!
This is my own personal hypothosis, please discount it if you think it's BS:

I think little boys get erections to help their penis grow. Yup. You know, kinda like those vacuum penis enlargers for men? Well mother nature does the same thing for little boys by pumping their penis full of blood on a regular basis, my DH sais upwards to 5 x a day or MORE, if in the puberty years.

So, no worries if your little boy doesn't get them very often right away, he's just genetically programmed to get them at a later date. At least you don't have to worry about him squirtin himself in the eye during diaper changes!
Jett has been having little baby erections since he was a few days old, like I STIK M's son. We do elimination communication, so he is nakeybutt most of the time. Obviously, I get to see his genitals more frequently than diapering mamas. He has morning wood almost every day, and otherwise throughout the day gets hard. Sometimes, it's barely hard, other times, it is like a telephone pole. He never pees with an erection. ??? DH says it's nearly impossible to pee when he's hard, so maybe that's normal.

So, based on Jett's frequency if Pandora is right, he's not gonna have any locker room teasing. LOL

Perhaps you just haven't caught glimpse of any, or perhaps he doesn't get them. I'd say either is perfectly fine.
My DS get's them a lot. Every morning if I change him before his morning pee and after his naps. He also gets them when I change him after he has fallen asleep for the night. So I guess I wake him up a little and, boing. He has also gotten them since he was a newborn. However, I could never tell the difference between just an erection and when he was going to pee, so he caught me of guard a LOT. Also he is unintact so I am not sure if that has anything to do with anything, but you can tell by my sig it isn't something I am proud of.
Marcos gets erections sometimes, but it goes away really quickly, like 30 seconds- so it wouldn't be hard to miss (HA! no pun intended!). :LOL
I saw something on the Discovery Channel that explains this. For a man to have an erection, he has to release tension. When boys and men first wake, there is a release that allows the erection. Within a few minutes, he goes back to the normal state and the erection subsides. These "morning wood" erections have nothing to do with sex but instead, just the normal rythims of the body.

Has there been a study done on this? Because I would love to show it to my DH. He seems to think that in the morning (if I happen to be laying next to him) he has to show his appreciation. I would love to discredit his theory.

:LOL

my ds has the morning woods since he was a newborn. but i have also noticed lately (since turning 2) when we are doing diaper changes every once in a while, he will want to wipe himself and of course, he only wipes his penis (this is after i have already cleaned him up by the way....) and well, gets himself excited. he smiles, finishes up and we put a fresh diaper on and he is good to go.

Well, I have no doubt that he is appreciative and wants to show it in every way possible and while it's a good story, apparently there is nothing to it. Did you fall for it?
:

That show was one that was about sex that Discovery, Discovery Health and TLC show after 10 PM occasionally. It was not something that I thought I would ever need to know much more about and so I just filed it under "miscellaneous, sex" in my cranial filing cabinet. I didn't put any names or anything like that so that I could google it later but here is the basics:

It was long thought that any morning wood or other erections was caused by a tensing in the vascular system that held blood in the penis. However, this researcher recognized that when certain relaxing drugs were administered to male patients, they got an erection. That lead him to believe that instead of an action to allow blood to flow into the penis to allow an erection, It was actually a release that allowed it to flow in. To test this, he injected himself with a tension releasing agent and voila! He got an erection. He saw a potential for this discovery to help men who were suffering from erectile dysfunction. Instead of holding his discovery secret, he went to a medical convention and announced his discovery on stage. He went so far as to inject himself directly into his penis and then walk up and down the aisles letting everyone inspect his "stiffie." My understanding was that it was mostly women who wanted to evaluate it for proper stiffness and quality of erection by actually feeling it.
: It seems that most of the males were content to just look. :LOL

The conclusion is that just as a man holds his sphincter controlling his bladder for the great majority of the day, he also subconsciously holds this avoiding a day long erection and that with sexual excitement, a chemical signal is sent from the brain to the neural network telling the penis to release and become erect. Weird stuff! The thinking about morning wood is that when a man first wakes, the brain begins to fire up all of it's cylinders and try everything out to make sure everything is working properly and one of those checks is that the penis will become erect. As would be expected, this "Self Test" only lasts moments and as soon as everything tests OK, it shuts it back down.

Other than checking all systems, there is no sexual component to morning wood erections.
