Don't need this stress...older child needs surgery

ugh!!!!!!!!!! and double ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My DD who will be 2 when our second is born has a severe case of kidney reflux in her left kidney. We have known about it since I was pregnant with her and have been monitoring it since she was in utero.

Well today we had another check up and it is looking worse than last time. It appears that the main problem is an obstruction in her uriter (tube that runs from the kidney to the bladder)

So her urologist basically told us he would probably want to operate on her as soon as he can this summer after one more test which we are having in two weeks. He also asked when I was due....um technically 5 weeks.... I guess he is packed with surgeries but he said for a case like this he would squeeze her in...great!

I am very thankfull though to be living in the city we do with such great dr.s and thankful that we caught it sooner than later and having to loose her kidney all together or something.

The good thing is that when she is in the hospital recovering (2-3 days) that we are allowed to be with her 24-7 which I would fight for if they said no.

Ack ... terrible timing, huh? Sorry about the added stress ... you sound pretty positive, though, and it seems like other than the timing everything else is more or less as good as it could be in this situation ... thank goodness for that!
I hope your dd is okay and everything with the surgery turns out for the best.
Sorry about the extra stress - but I guess it will be good to get it over with before the new baby comes.

Hope it all goes well!

Well the thing is I don't think that will be the case. I am probably going to have a brand new baby and DD in the hospital.

Oh bummer. I must have misread. I thought he was going to try to squeeze her in beforehand

Geeze, that is a total PITA!

Either way it is but trying to get her in beforehand would be worse for us with my preterm labor stuff going on. I am more at ease with after the baby is born. My worst fear would be trying to get Riley in beforehand and then me going into labor while she is in surgery.eek!

At least the new baby and I will stay with her at the hospital and she can have life giving momma milk to help her recover.

WOW! I know somehow you'll manage! I remember how stressful it was when my son had his surgeries and it can be very hard on a postpartum mom. Do you have a partner? You may want to trade time at the hospital. My dh spent nights with my son and I spent days. I don't know what I would have done without the sleep.

Good luck with everything and I hope your dd has a speedy recovery!
Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear that the surgery needs to happen now, rather than later. Sending all my positive vibes to you, your dh, Riley and the little impatient one you are carrying.

Yes my husband said he would take time off for this event. He want's to stay in the hospital with her too. So at least if I needed rest with the baby he would be there for Riley.
