OK. We have the Carnitor and the amount our geneticist prescribe is 1.5 mil (x2 a day) to be administered in one of those little syringes with food.

I have been doing lots and lots of research on carnitine and its importance in transporting fat to the mitochondria to be converted to energy.
On several of the medical websites I found a conservative dosage to begin (for a babe) to be 200 mg divided into 2 doses.

How many ml makes up 200 mg?
Since ml is a liquid measurement and a mg is a weight measurement. I am stumped.

I would like to compare the dr.'s dosage to this suggested dosage but I am having a heck of a time.

Anyone?

Thanks, Mary:

i think mg's usually refers to the concentration of medicine in a given amount - like however many mg's per ml. does your liquid say what the concentration is somewhere?

100mg per ml? if so then 200mg would be 2 ml (divided into two doses, so 1ml doses).

Actually. The geneticist's dose is 1.5 ml.

So I guess its 100 mg to 1.5 ml x 2 a day

So 200 mg would be 3 ml x 2 a day.

Did I get that right?

Math was not how I got ahead in life as you can tell.

Mary:

i'm not a math wiz either.

does it say on the bottle that one dose is 100mg? on the bottles we have it says the amount per ml, and then the dose could be different. like 100mg per ml with a dose being 1.5ml so a dose conatins 150mg. it depends on if the bottle is saying it is 100mg per dose or per ml.

you can call the pharmacy you got it from if the bottle makes no sense. they should easily be able to tell you.

I'm guessing it probably does mean 100 mg. per ml. It'll be written like 100 mg/ml or something like that. If you're unsure call the pharmacy and ask them to convert it for you.

But I'm thinking she's taking two doses of 150 mg. each.

Andrew takes three of 330 mg. each but I think he's at the max. dosage for his weight. I think many kids are at lower doses but it seems like most are on three doses. I think carnitor clears quickly so to keep body amounts level 3 or even 4 doses is more typical.
