Doula?

Have you used a doula in the past? Would you again? I am planning a vbac but am not sure I want an extra person around. I tend to be very private and not want help. My first labor I couldn't stand anyone even making a sound in the room. I was bed ridden (pitocin/IV etc) and just kept my eyes shut meditaing the whole time. Any sound bothered me off. However, I want to have a successful vbac and have heard doulas can help with this. Also, money is an issue but I would pay any amount to avoid a C-section!
Your experiences? Advice?
