I am dreading going to the Dr. today. I HATE OBs. Medically they consider me "high risk" because I am diabetic...I think it is a crock of poop...lol. Being a VBAC this should be even harder. I wonder how he will react when I inform him that I want a low intervention pregnancy and a no intervention birth and I will refuse the majority of testing he is going to want to do? My anxiety is so high right now...been here and done this with my previous babies....but now I am in a new state, with a new Dr.......YUCK. Will update later.
Can you find a midwife? I would think a midwife would be more agreeable to your desires for your prenatal and birth care. Good luck!

I so hear you! Actual docs I see slam me as "high-risk-gonna-die-start-freaking." (I just made that word up.) My midwife, on the other hand, is just gonna do a lot of monitoring and see. But I know what you mean - I feel like I have to put on body armor to go to doc appts.

Hope it goes smoothly!

It was horrible. Needless to say we will not be returning. First of all they told me I need to be seen WEEKLY at diabetic clinic which is offered every Tuesday from 8-noon....MANDATORY. I explained that I am a nurse and there is no way I can be there every single Tuesday and that there had to be more hours then just those 4 per week for me to be seen....NOPE. I was told that if prenatal care was a priority for me then I would make the time . When I questioned how other women who worked did it they told me that they were willing to make sacrafices for the health of their babies!!!!!! I guess they must have VERY flexible jobs!!

So...they left it as if I could not be there every Tuesday they would refuse to care for me during my pregnancy. This is my 6th pregnancy and the 4th that I have been diabetic for and I have NEVER been seen weekly throughout my pregnancy!!

I am so upset and so stressed right now. All I want is to get through this pregnancy with a healthy baby and ideally I would have loved to deliver at home....but no midwife will help us at home. I feel ok with UCing, but I worry about that risk of being diabetic and something happening. AZ is so CPS crazy that if something went wrong and I as a known diabetic "risked my baies life" to deliver at home I would be at risk of having my baby taken away.

I wish there was SOMEONE out there that would help us at home. Just someone who knew a little more then us who could be an extra set of eyes and ears to alert us if something was going wrong. I do not want to risk my baby in any way, but I also need to find a way to birth this baby vaginally in a peaceful way!!!
They couldn't even afford you the professional courtesy that as a nurse you might have enough professional training to manage your own diabetis without a weekly (cover their arse insurance wise..scold you) meeting....considering this is your 4rth pregnancy with diabetis...gosh I hope they didn't expect you to pay for that clinic... what a time suck

can you shop for another professional?

*hugs* I hate dr visits! I was expected to spend $30 today for a visit where all they did was tell me my test results.. no blood pressure no nada just test results.

I wish I could recommend something better, but I'm in the search for a midwife/ob as well. I would rather have a somewhat monitored birth just to know the baby is ok, but would love love love to do a home waterbirth.. oh and by the way I'm Arizona too

Ok, that was just plain messed up. Please do not go back there and you should send a letter or something. They are not giving you any options and I don't think that's right. At least discuss options with you so that YOU can determine what risks you are willing to take considering how it's your body and your baby. You've had 4 kids as a diabetic, I think you can handle it. That is totally messed up.
