What do you use it for? What kind do you use? What size bottle do you buy? How do you dilute it? How does its cost compare to that of other cleaners? Does it work as well on a variety of different things? And any other comments you care to share.

I use it on everything! I use a little bit on a washcloth to wash down my shower and bathroom. I found a new use today...it got chocolate out of my ds's white t-shirt. I use a squirt in my mop bucket to clean the floors. Peppermint in the kitchen and lavender in the dining room and bath. Mmmm. I diluted it in a bucket of water to scrub dog pee out of the carpet(stupid dog, she's never peed in the house in almost 3 years, brand new carpeting 2 weeks ago and we move in 3 days

: ) My ds has pretty sensitive skin so I use the lavender on him in the bath. It's gentle, smells great and it's tons cheaper than "baby washes." I don't like using it on my dishes, although some people do...I've been brainwashed that my dishes have to be lemony fresh. Really, anything you need to clean!

I can't stand the smell of lemons so I might be able to use it on dishes, too, mamalisa.

Ida, it's a kind of hemp castile soap in either liquid or bar form that you can buy at a health food store. I've been mixing it with water and putting it in my hand soap dispenser. I've found that the peppermint variety works GREAT on mosquito bites--better than anything else I've ever tried, including cortisone cream! So I'm interested to find out what else I can use it for.

Does anyone else have comments?

peppermint (diluted, of course) in the shower, especially on a hot day, feels great. Lavendar for hand soap, baby wash. I haven't yet tried it for cleaning, I'm addicted to Mrs. Meyers for that, but Dr. B's would be so much more economical!

I've been thinking about trying it, too!

How much do you dilute it to use as a bodywash?

How does it work in the washing machine?

Peace,
alsoSarah

I've been using it lately to wash baby clothes - thinking since it's a soap and not a detergent that it will help remove flame retardants, formaldehyde, and other yukkies ... does anyone know if it is supposed to work for that??

I have an ASKO front loading washer and the instructions say to be very prudent with liquid soaps, because the machines are made to work with powdered detergents. So I just try to use it sparingly.

We use Dr.B's Peppermint as a shower gel (straight from the bottle), but be careful around the privates (a tad too refreshing). I use it as a facial cleaner as well, and do not break out so long as I scrub every day. I also spray a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture (with a few drops of TTO added) on dirty diapers before putting them in the pail. I usually buy Dr.B's at Huckleberry's (kinda like a Wild Oats store) or at Fred Meyers.

Thank you for starting this thread, Juliacat!
I hope you don't mind me tossing questions in from over here....
I'm learning a lot, but I don't mean to hijack!

(That said, does Dr.B.'s make almond soap as well, BusyMommy?)

Dr. Bronner's comes in peppermint, almond, eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender, and unscented. It also comes in a variety called Sal Suds that is a mild household detergent, for cleaning things, not people.

I wonder if I could use the tea tree oil variety to clean my toilet with?

You're welcome, alsoSarah.

I use it for laundry and hands mostly. I love peppermint!!! I also have almond, that is great for Max's bath.

Trader Joe's has the large (not the biggest, but I think 2nd biggest - I'm too lazy to go look at the size right now) in peppermint. It's a whole lot cheaper there than anywhere else!!!

ok i have to share this because it is one of the dumber things that i have ever done and i hope to spare anyone else the trauma. and yes, it involves peppermint soap.

i was in colorado over the summer and we stayed at my in-law's cabin waaay up in the mountains. no running water but there is a natural spring close by. it's a pain in the rump to have to heat the water so i thought i'd just go refresh myself in the beautiful mountain stream.
:

dd and i hiked to the stream, shucked off our clothes and splashed water all over us. BRRRRRRR! so then, in my infinite wisdom, i got a pitcher of the water and moved away from the stream so that i wouldn't contaminate it with the soap. so i put a little soap on my washcloth and proceeded to wash off with it. oh my goddess, what a mistake. i froze my a$$ off. a cool mountain breeze, dr. bronner's peppermint soap and nothing to rinse with but frigid icy water... hello hypothermia.

we walked back to the cabin and i layed on the couch shaking for 2 hours under every sleeping bag i brought. nightmarish.

so, there's your public service announcement for the day.

Oh mamathisle...how horrible! I understand what you're talking about though. For some reason, that peppermint soap is really good at dropping one's body temperature (my goodness, I'd hate to start out in a shower as hot as when I end my showers!).

But it is nice in hot weather.
