Stacia mentioned in an earlier post that Dr. Richard Linsk was homebirth-friendly. I have been looking into new doctors since my daughter became eligible for Medicaid and we learned that her current ped (Dr. Park-Davis--re: "Can Anyone Recommend a Doc for the Detroit Area") does not accept any of the plans from which we have to choose.

I googled Dr. Linsk and found an address in Livonia, not Ann Arbor, so I thought perhaps the information I found was old, since I got the impression from the earlier thread that he was in Ann Arbor. The Livonia practice that was listed was called Integrated Pediatrics, and they do indeed accept one of the Medicaid plans on our list.

So here are my questions:

1. Is Dr. Linsk at Integrated Health Care in Livonia?
2. If not, does anyone know anything about any of the docs in this practice?
3. Does anyone have any more information about Dr. Linsk? Is he respectful of parents not vaccinating their children?

Thank you for any information you may have!

Hello
Dr. Linsk was with the Livonia U-M practise. However, about a year ago, he left and moved practise near his home in Ann Arbor.

I do not have any glowing recommendations for him.

Dr. Linsk called me a little over a month ago. He said that he has opened up a private practice on Stadium in Ann Arbor, that he has employed a nurse practitioner and that she was excited about doing home visits for babies after homebirths (and possibly) other births. He seemed to not be in favor of vaccines and specializes in nutrition. I asked if he took medicaid and some of the other popular insurance plans around here and he seemed to take most of them.

I don't know what his personality is like because it is hard to judge over the phone. It is also possible that the NP who works for him is very different, personality-wise and that doing care through her would be a possibility for someone who didn't like him personally.

Thank you both. Lunapier, you say you don't have any glowing recommendations; does that mean you have some insightful CRITicisms of him? I wouldn't want you to feel like you were trashing him, but if you had a bad experience with him, it might help us steer away from his practice.

Otherwise, I'm leaning towards making him dd's ped. Indeed, Stacia, they do take the Medicaid health plan that we've chosen. Thanks again for your information!

I have a friend who sees Dr. Linsk at his new practice in Ann Arbor. She likes him for his think-outside-the-box attitude (that's what made him very unpopular at UM and caused him to leave), but he is infamous among parents for his bad bedside manner. Some parents -- especially in the autism community -- have been deeply offended by his comments. I don't think he means to be rude, he genuinely wants to help parents make informed health decisions and he is active in local groups. He's just a person who talks without thinking about the emotional impact of his words...some people can stomach that better than others.

Actually, when we first met Dr. Linsk and asked him about vaccines (and their composition) he was very dismissive. So far as to say that there was no mercury in the vaccines, that attorneys (which I am) caused much of the hoopla and not to worry. At the time, I was 9 months pregnant, just moved back into town and looking for a midwife/doula. Also, I was uneducated about vaccines at that point. However, this introduction irritated me.

There is a female doctor at the Livonia practise, that appears to be more accepting of different views. I cannot think of her name right now. But, if you would like it, please pm me. One thing about this doc, was that she smelled my son's poop - to see if there was anything odd/wrong or if he had any digestive problems. That impressed me. (No one has ever offered to smell my poop!)
