Hope this is the right place to post -- assuming you VBAC ladies know your stuff. There are several questions :
major
A friend of mine is having fibroid surgery -- the fibroids are in her upper uterus and the Doc told her it's the upper uterus that is responsible for pushing the babies out...so if she gets pg in the future (she's not now) she will have to have a C-section. She's really upset about this, but is young and has no friends with babies, etc....

Is the doc telling her the truth?
Is it the upper uterus that does the pushing?
Will surgery up there prevent a vaginal birth in the future?
Does she have any alternatives?

She does have alternatives.
There are other forms of fibroid removal these days that don't scar the uterine wall. Try http://www.womenssurgerygroup.com and see if maybe that's an option for her (I think it depends on the fibroids?).
I have heard from women who have had uterine surgery that were told the same thing, and did their own research and found that isn't necessarily so.
She should probably seek another opinion. If she doesn't beleive or trust her doctor, she shouldn't let him operate on her!
There are specialists who do nothing but female repro surgery (see site I linked above) who would be the best choice, in my opinion, for any type of procedure.

she needs a second opinion. no one should go into such a serious surgery with long-term implications without two or three opinions--and from varying drs, not just another dr recommended by the first dr.

good luck to her.
