Went for my check-up today. BP was really good, weight only up 3.5, and I am measuring a week behind. Boo. She didn't seem concerned, but I am really not feeling the baby kick very much (anterior placenta). So, she scheduled an u/s for tomorrow to check the weight and measure.

I do like that she didn't freak out- which would have freaked me out- and she is cautious. I also like that my mom is in town, so she will get to go.

She made me go straight home after lunch, lie down on my left side and count the kicks. I actually did get to feel 10 in an hour, so I didn't have to go right back in today.

Guess all is well. And I'll get to see a picture of the baby tomorrow, so that's the bright side.

Totally normal, in my experience. I measured on average, 3 weeks behind my entire first pregnancy. Everyone was expecting a smaller baby, and he was born a couple days before my EDD at nearly 9 pounds!!! Apparently my body just hides the baby well. Same thing going on this time. At 27 weeks I was only measuring 24 weeks. I am only barely showing and up about 4 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight. It seems our bodies are acting similarly this pregnancy!

just wanted to send you hugs and well wishes along with a little "been there done that" and a "me too" story! first of all, one week behind is nothing and you may find that next time you measure on target or even ahead! that totally happened to me with two of my previous pregnancies. the measuring per week thing is very subjective, imho. it's really great that the kick count went so well -- that is such a better indicator of baby health right now!
:

my sort of "me too" story is that this is my fourth baby, and while my uterus measured exactly 30weeks at my app yesterday, my OB actually had me get back on the table and remeasured me before i left because i LOOK so small!
it's bizzare -- i was HUGE with my last two -- but this time around i get crazy looks when people find out i'm pregnant! well, it's been better in the last couple of weeks...at least people actually know i'm pregnant by looking at me now, but it wasn't exactly flattering to be starting the 3rd Trimester and having friends and strangers alike tell me they wouldn't have known i was pregnant if i hadn't said anything!
: that combined with the fact that i've felt much less movement this time around and NONE above my belly button had me worried, but apparently for naught. heartbeat was good and my fundus is where it supposedly "should" be.
:

so, to recap, measuring a week behind is usually no big deal, the kick count results are awesome and very reassuring, and following up with an u/s will really go a long way toward easing your mind, i feel.
enjoy it!

I always measure behind. This is my 3rd and I'm behind this time too, though not by much. Some people just do carry wierd I guess (me being one of those LOL.)

BTW I did have smaller babies (6.3 at 38w and 5.6 at 36w) but I'm a petite person and was a small baby myself.

Have fun at the u/s though!! I got lots in the other 2 pregnancies and both times the babies measured right on track.

**edited to add, that in my 2nd pregnancy I was measuring quite a bit behind, and did end up w/low amniotic fluid towards the end and was induced at 36w. I measured about 28w at 35w, so quite a bit behind.

I too have always measured behind and this is baby number 6. This time they are watching it though because baby is measuring behind too, not just me, and with the fluid issues we had till recently.

I am sure though your little one is just fine

1cm off isn't really a concern, as the fundal measurement will vary from person to person, and I believe the cm is supposed to equal weeks of gestation +/- 2?

At 24 weeks, I was actually measuring 20cm because baby was transverse. At my 28 week appt, I measured 29cm (both OB and midwife got that measurement, 2 days apart). I don't really consider myself measuring a week ahead though. That measurement is within the normal error rate for fundal height measurement.

So that's why your doc didn't freak out, and I would have run far away from her if she had.

I also have an anterior placenta, and sometimes I'll go hours without noticing movement, and then I'll get an hour or two where it seems like the kid is bouncing off the walls.

that is totally right. 1 cm less is nothing to worry about

Peeking in from May DDC ~ just remember late ultrasounds may be wrong, too on size of baby! I've been measuring 2 weeks ahead on fundal height, but ultrasound last week showed baby measuring small. My midwife AND the u/s tech even said that they are notorious for being off this late in pregnancy.

Also remember that the fundal height can vary based on babies position, amount of amniotic fluid, etc.

I'm sure babe is fine! Good luck!
