Wow I cannot believe that it is June already!! Hurray Warm weather, sunshine and lighting bugs. I love summer. And guess what I am still pregnant. It sure seems like it has been an eternity.

My dreads are now about 8 months old and are looking great. Almost all locked up, even the ends are finally getting there. I was thinking that I might have a hair wrap put in the dread on top, just becuase I have some, ok alot of loose hair that must have been seperated during the inital seperation. It is about 5 inches long and you can tell that it would have naturally belonged to that dread, but somehow it is not.

I hope everyone is well...Pretty quite around here. Oh yeah, someone hook me up with the headwrap info

I posted this little headwrap recipe in this thread

Worsted weight cotton or linen yarn, 3-5 skeins.
Knit loosely, but evenly on size 7 or 8 needles
Cast on 14 inches of sts. Knit in stockinette for 60 to 80 inches. Cast off
and block.
It's from a wrap I bought a few weeks ago that looks like this

Mine is from a company that only sells wholesale called Needls. They come in different sizes. I got the large and it makes a huge bun (more like a loaf) on my head.

HTH!

Ack, darkstar! Still hangin in there and still with such a sweet temperament. You are amazing. C'mon out baby, auntie phish wants to meet you.
Remember when we were talking about zooma getting canned and you asked where I lived-I live in PA in "philaburbia" so Camden waterfront is our hometown summer venue and the philly spectrum is our indoor show hometown venue.

Hey Parthenia! I didn't realize you had dreads, let alone bum length ones. So, we had that in common too. I cut mine out last fall. You know dingleberry dh now says he wants me to let dreads come back in. *HE* misses them. I'm like, uh, you shoulda maybe kinda told me that *before* I had at it with the scissors, brah.
: :LOL

Have a good day, dready mamas!

Thanks fo the link Parthenia. I need to make something to keep all this hot hair up in the summer. I have never lived in the midwest with locks, so I am not looking forward to the humidity. I remember traveling fromthe west to the east coast with locks and how hot they and my head would get. If I wouldnt have cut my first set, they would be long
BUt the time was right and I needed a change then.

Phishmama, I saw a few really good shows at Camden and the Spectrum. I love Philly, although I always seemed to get into certian things I shouldnt have been doing there
But damn, I had a great time.

I am done being patient with this baby, loosing some mucous. So s/he is ready to come out... Jades ballet recital is Sunday and I am almost positive that this baby will come right before it. I dont want to miss it
: I want to go see her little self dance. As this is the last class she is taking until fall. And then I dont think ballet is the choice, as the last thing I want on my hands is a primadonna ballerina. Ah, what choice do I have, she is already pretty high matinence.

hey all - yeah summer is coming and we've had a few really nice spring days here!

I'm having an awful-want-to-comb-out-my-dreads day as they seem to be loosening or else big clumps of straight undreaded hair is showing up all over. Right by each of my ears is a section of hair that is completly straight! But on the other hand a few have gotton nice tight roots. Hmmmm! I miss scrubbing my head and not having flakies everywhere - but I'm a curious cat and need to keep going. And the loops - don't get me started. I'm going to try to get dh to take a pic of this crazy head today so I can show you all.

Darkstar you have got it together girl! A good labor will follow this patient sunny pregnancy of yours - I'm sure of it!

Hi mamas, marking the thread.
Hope everyone is well!

Thanks, Parhtenia, for linking that other thread; I have been looking for a webpage exactly like that tzinius site that shows how to tie lots of styles.

Jen - I've started your stitch and I think it will look really cool - so I'd surely be into a trade for a hair wrap.

I have been trying and trying to wrap my dreads in a bun on top of my head but cannot figure it out

Anyone got any tips or instructions on how to do it.
It could be that my dreads are too new to do it?

Hey Mamas...I can't believe it is June! There is a beautiful thunderstorm outside right now. The rain makes me sleepy, but I love listening to the clouds rumble. I love wraps. I always used them last time and this time. If you go to a fabric store, they have (hopefully) a gauze like fabric that comes in nice earthy colors. I buy a lot of that. I cut huge squares out and then fold it into a triangle. (You don't have to sew it, but you could sew the ends...it doesn't really unravel. I have had the one that I use all the time for 5 years) Anyway, I put my hair on top of my head ln a ponytail, but then loop it through, so you kinda have a loose fan like bun. Then I put the triangle wrap on top of my head, point facing back. And then I just wrap it around my head and tuck the ends in. Then the top of your head your dreadies peak out. If you want them totally covered then just put your hair bun thing lower back and the fabric will cover it. I just ramble on. Hope it works for you...I think the fabric is really called gauze, atleast a JoAnns it is. How do you get links to pics on here...could anyone explain it to me and I will show some pictures. Thanks!
Peace

my hair is mulitpule lengths and too short in spots for a ponytail atop my head mush less a bun, so i sue the hair elastics that goody makes, they are hairbands that are kinda like brastraps, anyway i slip that on regular style thepush it up like a wide ponytail. the friction keeps it in place. then i slip the wrap on(it looks kinda like a jesters cap or a nuns habit. then i cris cross the arms, ties them behind my neck, tuck them, scoot and i am good to go!
elfie, what kind of fabric would you like?
are you into batiks?, linen? i have a lot of stuff here but you can look on www.craftconn.com, i am making a carrier fabric order today and can include the fabric then. they have like a ton of choices

i am pcyced for the tread-whoo hoo!
ttys,

I am doing a bit better these days. It has been a long difficlult struggle though but my weight seems to finally have stabilized. They still don't know why I have been so sick but now I have been battling not only nauseau and puking, but a swollen and abcessed Bartholin's gland. (For those of you who don't know that is a gland located on either side of the vagina and helps secrete substances used in vaginal secretions)

We are not doing well financially and I haven't been able to get into the nursing program. I am still on the waiting list. I am actually considering moving out of the west coast and moving back to Ohio where we would have some family around. I don't know though. I have been living on the west coast for about 5 years now and I don't know how well I will adjust back to living in the bible belt.

Well, that is it for now.

Change is the only constant in the entire universe. Somehow or other I will find my way back to good health and a positive living experience. This gloom and sickness has to be clear up sometime. (or at least I hope)

Peace,
Shelbi

Shelbi. I know how you feel about moving off the west coast. we had to do it, and it really sucked, but...Its alright. I have alot of friends and family around and it makes it easier. Plus if you were in Ohio, you would be alot closer to me
I am sorry that you are still so sick. What a bummer. And I am sure that the $ thing is not helping the stress level either. Where would you move in OH?

what is everyone else up too? Jen, do you sell mai tai carriers? Do you have a picture of one that you have made, if so I would love to see it. Been pretty quiet around here latley. Will someone have a margarita for me, it sounds so good. I cant wait to have an ice cold drink.
