Dress up clothes?

524 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  EFmom
Does anybody make any kids dress up clothes? Skirts with elastic waist, capes, fairy skirts, anything like that? Anybody know of any websites? I have some playsilks already and a dress up box from Toys R Us. I want some things though that allow my dd to really use to use her imagination. I am going to the thrift shop to get some old lady purses and maybe some tiny shoes if I can find them. Maybe some clothes too if I can find any but I am really after some basics. Any ideas? heres the link for Magic Cabin they have lots of lovely stuff.

To build up our dress up box, I always go the day after Halloween and pick up 75% off costumes--this last year I got a bunch of cowboy/cowgirl stuff that dd really enjoys in addition to her fairy and princess stuff.
I gave my bridesmaid dress and stupid dyed shoes from the last wedding (last summer) I stood up in. She was a flower girl (bride paid $300.00 for her dress it was so plain for that money) but why should it be wasted in the closet, so that is in her box too. I have my mother-in-law on the lookout for when she goes to her garage sales. Do you have any old prom dresses?
We are just starting dd's dress-up box, but I have a good idea of what she likes from friend's houses.
I did throw in last years Halloween costume and love the idea of getting more after Halloween.
My daughtr's favorite dress-up item is this old petticoat/slip that someone was throwing away. She slips her arms into holes from the waistband and wears it like a twirly-dress. She looks like a ragamuffin but she loves it

Maybe also check out older kids clothes at the thrift store. There might be some really dressy clothes that would make great dress-up stuff for your dd. I am thinking of some dresses tha twould be far enough out of her size range to be fantasy play clothes but they are small enough that she would trip over them like she would adult dresses. Though, adult clothes are great to have too.

Have Fun!

OMG ekblad7, I love that site. Thanks for sharing it with us!
We have a mill outlet near where I live that sells odd curtains very cheaply. I picked up a bunch for a couple of dollars. I threaded ribbons through the rod pockets and tacked them down on some. These can be used as capes, skirts, aprons, veils, etc. I used some elastic to turn a few into skirts. Some valences work as shawls, scarves, etc. I also picked up a few glittery fabric remnants and hemmed them, and they have a variety of uses.
