My LO is 5 days old and my milk just came in 2 days ago. Will I ever stop this free flow? I feel so bad - she's constantly soaked and pulls away frustrated because the milk is coming so fast!
In the beginning with this babe I often took her off the breast for a few seconds at letdown and let the most forceful part of the flow go into a burp towel, otherwise she would be choking and sputtering. For those first few seconds it was like a fountain! It didn't take long to calm down, can't remember when exactly, but not long. They get bigger and better able to handle the flow very quickly too.

This. I kept a prefold on her chest - would nurse until I letdown, and then pulled out and sprayed into the towel. We also had limited success nursing uphill - I laid back and put DD on my chest so the milk had to flow uphill. Block feeding REALLY helped though. She also got bigger and was more able to handle the flow but it took until 2-3 months before she stopped choking at every feeding. It seemed to be better at night when she wasn't as fierce about eating - the letdown wasn't as strong.
