For about the last 3-4 weeks my 13 month old's diaper has been dry in the morning. Somtimes it has a tiny little damp spot. If I leave it on her for 15-20 minutes she normally then goes. My mother suggested that I should try putting her on the potty for this first tinkle of the morning. I decided why not.

So yesterday morning I tried for the first time. I sat her on the potty turned on the water and she went. It was so exciting. Of course it is a little sad too. I am not ready to potty train and stop using my diapers.

Is this extremely rare? I am just wondering. I am not pushing potty training by the way, I just thought that going in the potty won't scare her if we can catch a tinkle every now and then.

My kids all did that for a while around that age too! LOL then by the time they were 3 they were wet every AM. It goes in stages, as long as you are pushing the potty it is great to get them used to the idea and a few sucesses really help in that!! ~

I did EC with my baby from ages 6-12 mos. and from that time on she developed the habit of staying dry a good part of the time. I continued to put her on the potty in the mornings from 12 mos. unitl potty training.

I think you are doing a good thing by introducing the concept of what the potty is for very early on, as long as she's interested and willing. It sure made it easier for my dd to potty learn as a toddler! Her main problem was stubborness, but she got the bladder/bowel control thing down way early thanks to EC and modified EC later.

My dd potty trained for good at 33 mos. and although I keep her in a pull up at night just in case, she only wets them on average every 5 nights.

Babies have to wake to urinate- not fully obviously, but we don't pee in a state of total asleep. Dd will sometimes pee when she stirs to nurse- she doesn't seem to wake, but she is roused enough to pee and nurse. She is dry in the mornings when she does very little night nursing. I try to keep her in fitteds w/out a cover and if we nirse I feel the outside to see if it is wet and if it is I change her while she is nursing and we both go back to sleep-that way she never fully rouses and it's easy to get back to sleep. I do use a mattress cover with this method! :LOL Sometimes I am a little groggy and miss the pee right at first.

Thank you mamas for your replies. I am familiar with EC. I did some research on it after I came here to MDC, where there are all these enlightened ladies
. I didn't think that you could start after your child was 3 months old or so. I almost caught her again Sunday morning but I wasn't quite fast enough and she peed on the couch. lol. It is fine that it might not last. But I think we will continue to at least try to catch her first tinkle of the morning.
