Dryer or line dry?

556 Views 9 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Alkenny
How many of you all dry dipes on the line? In the dryer? Or a combination of the two? I love the idea of line drying and I have to sun "bleach" most of them anyways, but I don't like how they feel when they are exclusively line dried. Mine are hard and stiff. The main reason I bought nice ipf and cpf diapers was b/c they are sooo soft! Stiff dried diapers sort of defeats the purpose!!

I feel like I "need" to sun bleach b/c none of the people I know CD and I don't want to turn them off of CD by stained dipes (+ I like the look of unstained dipes best)!!

How do you all solve this problem? Does anyone line dry/sun "bleach" for a few hours and then finish in the dryer?

I am open for any suggestions!! Thanks ahead of time for your suggestions!!! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

I just line-dried my first load and I was disappointed about how stiff they were. However, I was completely amazed at the total stain removal. Thanks for bringing this up and I'll be lurking.
I put mine in the dryer during the winter and line dry in the summer. They do get crunchy, but since Z's 20 mos I'm not as concerned as I would be if he were really little. If they're really crunchy I'll run them through the dryer for 10 minutes or so to soften them.
I line dry in the summer and on sunny winter days, and I use the dryer in the winter. I almost always 'top them off' in the dryer so they won't be so crunchy (what is the point of having organic velour if it feels like newspaper?) and sometimes I toss a damp handtowel in to help. It usually only takes about 5 - 10 minutes for them to feel cush again.

I have brand spankin' new El Bees out there today! It was a very fluffy day here...

put them in the dryer for about 10 minutes BEFORE hanging them outside, this helps them come out SO much softer
i just started throwing mine in for a few mins after sunning them. wonderfully soft!
Thanks everybody!!

3 little monkeys- doesn't the heat from the dryer set the stains?
I line dry (indoors in my basement--haven't had a lot of stains) for 24-48 hours, then put them in the dryer on the fluff cycle=no heat. That softens them but uses a lot less energy than heated drying.

While they're wet they don't get so hot, so it should work. And besides, they've been through a hot wash already...

I do the same thing with towels - five minutes in the dryer at any point before they're totally dry will fluff them nicely.

I just can't bring myself to use a dryer - too much of a greenie.

: They are still stiffer than just drying them in the dryer completley, but I've had no ill effects with DS's bum and I find that they're actually MORE absorbant after trying outside. No clue WHY, they just are.
