okay, ds is 2 1/2. he is still nursing, and until recently he usually woke up 2-4 times a night, and nursed back to sleep unevenfully. about a month ago he started waking up around 3:30 or 4 am, and nursing until around 6 or 7, and either sleeping another hour, or getting up for the day. It doesn't matter what time he goes to bed, he still wakes up around this time. His usual bedtime is around 8pm though. He has all of his teeth, so it isn't that. I thought maybe he was hungry, so I've tried giving him a snack and then trying to get him back to sleep. That didn't help. Meanwhile I have had to be away at bedtime a few times, and dh was able to get him to sleep, or back to sleep pretty easily in my absense, which was a big surprise because it has never worked in the past. He has pretty much nursed to sleep almost 100% of the time. So we decided to see what would happen if Dh got him to sleep throughout the night, essentially nightweaning. I've been sleeping in another room. It has gone fairly well. He is sleeping a 6 hour stretch in general. But around 3:30 or 4 he pretty much wakes up, and Dh can't get him back to sleep until around 6. He sleeps another hour then wakes up for the day. Again he has given him food. I've shortened is daytime nap to 1 hour, from around 2. And it seems like he is trying to go back to sleep, he just rolls around restlessly, the same as when I was nursing him down.

Any thoughts on what is causing him to wake up like this? Or suggestions on how to get him to sleep? I just don't think he's getting enough sleep, and dh and I can't realistically start waking up for the day at 4 am.

Thanks!

I just posted my own thread about this. I feel your pain...and your fatigue!
