DS hates hats

...or anything on his head, really. This had made summer challenging, but I've found keeping him the shade has been okay. However, now that winter is approaching, I know he'll need a hat on when we go outside. He takes off all hats that don't have string to keep them on his head, so I bought him one with the string around his chin the other day and when I put it on him and he realized he couldn't take it off, he SCREAMED and cried until I took it off him. Any suggestions as to how to encourage him to be okay with his head being covered?

Does he accept hoods? My DD will pull off a hat, but doesn't really notice if her sweater has a hood, maybe because it's not as tight?

That may work. In fact, his halloween costume has a "hood," and while he complains while I put it on his head, he doesn't fuss while it's there. Any suggestions for keeping the ears covered?

Last year, the only winter hat that DD would leave on was this one:

She didn't seem to notice it was there.

The good news is that this year (she's two now) she has started really liking hats and requesting to wear them, so there's hope
My suggestion toward this end is to make sure you are wearing one yourself. It may not help much this year, but kids get to an age an want to do what mommy does (or doesn't do) and you can bet he's already paying attention.

That hat is adorable, although I imagine he'd fight me like crazy while I was putting it on!

My wearing a hat is not something I'd thought about. I'll have to invest in one.

My DS was hating hats this summer, too. It was a bit of a challenge because we go out for walks constantly. He just started liking them again (he didn't have a problem last winter) about a month ago when I bought him a cowboy hat for Halloween. He LOVES it. He'll even try to put it on himself. Since then, he's been more receptive to other hats, especially if someone tells him how handsome he looks.
Like a pp said, there's hope he'll grow to like one. I also second the hood advice. He's never had a problem with hoods.
